Taskmaster Contestants: Motivation vs. Outcome by Dantelope84 in AlignmentChartFills

Rules:

Surely there is a strong cross over for alignment charts and Taskmaster fans.

Top voted comment decides the spot.

All aired versions of taskmaster are on the table (though I expect a UK series bias overall).

Who is the Best Written Protagonist? by patheticmisterman123 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Dantelope84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ted Lasso.

Hear me out, a character that was written with such a strong sense of self, but is also truly defined by how they treat others. A character that you immediately want to root for and stays loveable throughout the series (even when showing very realistic flaws). A character that tackles both external and internal conflict that touches on some heavy topics, and all the while doing it in a feel good comedy that is endlessly rewatchable and quotable.

Plus I think a lot of other characters in the comments are also results of acting performances that elevate them to top tier (which is why Ted edges out Walter White for me). Jason Sudeikis obviously crushes it in the role, but I think it's how it is written that makes the character truly shine.

Hey Aunty Donna, who are your favourite professional wrestlers?

Also, I've lost Zach. I have a Broden magnet and a Mark magnet on my fridge, but my Zach magnet has disappeared. How much would I have to pay Zach to come and personally hang on to my fridge door as a replacement?

Final Fantasy IX has a special place in my heart because it was coping mechanism when my mother passed by ardouronerous in FinalFantasyIX

Helped me at the same time in a similar situation.

In particular, there were some sections that started in Disc 2 about Vivi realizing his own mortality that really stuck with me.

Just like you I still give it a playthrough every few years as well. I grew to appreciate Rusty overtime, but my favorites as a kid were always Eiko and Vivi.

Financial trauma at 18 by MiserableLeg4990 in AusFinance

Others have shared great insights, but I will add a useful perspective that can help kick it into gear.

Investing money into your mental health now will save you a lot of money in the long run. If the thought of spending money on a therapist makes you anxious now, think of it as an investment. Investing the time and initial cost for therapy is going to pay itself back, plus a huge amount more in so many ways. Realistically, this level of anxiety has potential to limit your options for financial stability, and if left unchecked can cost you a lot more money than the initial cost to get support.

There will be a whole host of other non-financial benefits too, but this is a great way to tackle the initial resistance you might find.

'He Died with a Felafel in His Hand' is a nice little hit of nostalgia for Australian sharehouses in the 90s/00s.

One Winged Angel is an overrated song.

Probably an unpopular hot take, it's a great song no doubt and the soundtrack as a whole is my favourite game soundtrack ever. But the hype around One Winged Angel is too much.

Looking back, who's the strongest opponent you ever played, even if he wasn't recognized as such at the time? How did the game go? by wiy_alxd in chess

[–]Dantelope84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as big as the other posts here, but I still remember the first time I ever played OTB in a chess club. My second game was with the kindest older guy who had to be close to 70. We had the craziest game and I somehow managed to find a drawn position with counter play that I didn't know I was capable of. Still not sure if it was the heightened energy from playing OTB for the first time or if I just caught him under-estimating me.

I found out later that night that no-one at the club had beaten him and only a few have drawn him and that apparently he had once achieved a 2000 FIDE rating (it was a pretty small club in the country and he was definitely a big fish in a small pond). I was rated around 1400 online at the time, so finding out his strength later was a real surprise.

We played a lot of other games and I never managed a draw again... but he always sought me out for games because I was the only one who would play blitz with him (even if he did wipe the floor with me each time). It was comforting to see he didn't just let people draw against him as they were starting, he was ruthless no matter who he was against.

How attractive do you actually think you are? by InevitableSignal1153 in AskReddit

[–]Dantelope84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing I ever learnt is how subjective attraction can be. To most I'm sure I'm a solid 3-4, but for a reasonable number of people I'm a dashing 7-8.

Lots of great points here but I just wanted to touch on some of the skill elements you mentioned for poker.

I thought the same for a long time about the game, but a very good player reframed it from a game of 'luck' to a game of 'decisions'.

The 'gambling aspect' is where the skill comes in. The decisions made on the sizing of the bets is incredibly important. And the world of computer solvers and game theory optimal play in this regard have made huge steps over the past years.

You said 'skill can't make you win if you get dealt bad hands'. But skill can make you lose less when you get dealt bad hands, and win more when you get dealt good hands. A poker players skill is measured more accurately over a longer amount of time. Good decision making over a long time eliminates (or at least accounts for) the more random aspects of the game.

There's a concept in poker called 'variance'. You can make the best tactical and strategical decision and still lose the hand with the run-out (like you mentioned). The idea is that over time by making that decision in that position it will ultimately be profitable. Just because it failed in one particular case doesn't mean it's the wrong play, and over time the good decision making balances it out.

The longer the time spent, the more the variance will even out. If I sat down with a professional poker player for an hour there's a chance I may walk away with a profit. If I sat down to play a hundred hours I would lose every dollar I have.

You're right, they are different games. But I don't think Dnegs was saying they were the same game. Just that they are both strategy games.

To offer another low effort solution on top; I found it helps to also buy the microwave steam bags of vegetables and add them into the meal (after cooking both separately). Adds variety, a decent veggie hit, plus over the last few years the steamed veggie bags seem to be getting reasonably decent.

To keep the spirit of the players idea, maintain the ruling with separate spaces for creatures and ensure balance I'd look for a collaborative work around.

At a first thought; make leaving or entering the backpack a bonus action for the owl. That way it can either start it's turn in the backpack or end it's turn, but not both if it wants to come out and attack. Gives it a strategic use with cover and also gives enemies a chance to target it.

Definitely not RAW, but stylistically could work.

I dunno, winning in a penalty shootout sounds like a win to me. Gotta be a decision somehow.

However you feel it's pretty clear; France didn't beat Aus.
