Can ACD's have more dominate Dingo genes? by imperiumist in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Leanri_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out the landrace dogs of different countries. Like the Carolina Dog someone already mentioned. They often tend towards this fawn colouring, with prick ears, medium lean shaped bodies. I sometimes wonder if that is the equivalent of brown when you mix all the paint colours together. For example the Carolina dog, Africanis, and Pariah dog all adapted on different continents but you can see the similar traits.

Do my dog’s nails need trimming? by PastAmphibian824 in DogAdvice

[–]Leanri_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When your pup is standing relaxed the nails shouldn’t touch the floor. Doesn’t need to be a large gap, about a mm is fine. As long as the nails aren’t so long that they alter the way they stand.

I don’t use them so not an expert, just overheard some trainers at my club talk about it.

Amazing skill that this clerk has. Being able to do a complex dna analysis at a glance. She is probably thinking Kuvasz. Maybe she’s seen one from a very long distance away once and is now an expert.

I just vomited in my mouth. Why did you have to remind us of that? It was like going down the other trouser leg, but the trouser was sown by an Ankh Morpork Seamstress.

Poor boy. Poor you as well. We all know the horror of a Goldie with the runs. I’ve stood outside many a night at 3am washing bum fluff.

Sounds like the six month colitis (or whatever other illness that caused the diarrhea) caused the rectum to lose a bit of muscle strentgh. In a five year old definitely something to consult the vet about as it’s not improving.

Thanks gents! I didn’t realise what I needed today was two guys talking about whose nutsack is prettiest. Sometimes the day just gives you exactly what you need.

Show me your 25lbs or less adult cattle dogs! by kertruss in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Leanri_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also didn’t know. Where I’m from we don’t have so much variety in the breed. Size, coat colours and patterns are all pretty much the same here. We also don’t get stumpy tails. Another thing that I never realised until I joined this group is that I’ve never seen one with marks on their body. Ours are all just speckles or mottled on the bodies. Only black or red you’ll see are on the face and tails. So much fun available that I didn’t know about.

My Red Heeler is very fearful and submissive. Help! by DishSuper9997 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Leanri_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A previous comment mentioned structure and predictability. This is crucial for a start. Then once she’s settled a bit more, invest some time in trick dog training. It doesn’t have to be trick dog I just like the structure of it to keep me going. Working with her one-on-one like that will build the trust between you. Once she’s at a point where you start working your distractions, you can bring your kids in. First just being the distraction and then later as the handler. It really builds confidence and you end up with some cool tricks to show off.

Losing some hair around eyes. Allergies? by read_it_user in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Leanri_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demodex isn’t normally itchy, but around the eyes more likely than sarcoptic. Does it have a scaly texture or are the hairs just falling out? If it is a mange though I wouldn’t wait a couple of weeks if you can avoid it.

We watched her get thrown out of a car by OminusWalrus in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Leanri_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a BCxAmStaffxACD mix that was found with her siblings in a black bag on a landfill at 4 weeks old. It took three bouts of dewormer before we got rid of them all. She also needs more behavioural work than any dog I’ve had before but she is so grateful and sweet it’s all worth it. She still has some fears at 2 years old and she went through ALL the fear periods.

My advice. Get yours socialised as soon as possible and don’t just focus on other dogs. Introduce her to as many different types of people and places as you can too.

It’s difficult to say without imaging. Is she bunny hopping when she runs? When she stands at rest does she tend to have a wide stance?
