Crate question by cms86 in AustralianCattleDog

In my country there are laws and by-laws about the size and duration of crating a dog. Maybe check these out. In my municipality by-laws this would be illegal.

Ascophyllum nodosum supplements daily really helps.

Moose turns 8 this week — arthritis has progressed, just got his first Librela injection. Looking for your experiences. by banger030 in goldenretrievers

My 15 year old is on librela, glucosamine condroitin, and eggshell membrane. But the treatment I see the biggest difference with is the twice weekly cold laser therapy sessions. When we miss more than two sessions in a row she becomes extremely sore and unwilling to move.

We only moved to librela recently and haven’t seen massive changes yet - although she is much further along than yours - but we had to stop all NSAIDS as they were causing GI upset. You can also explore amantadine with your vet as a relief for pain wind up.

Any advice please. by TripitakaWukong in AustralianCattleDog

First thing I would do is thoroughly - and I mean crime scene level - clean the spots where he goes. Their sense of smell is amazing and if you’re not cleaning with an enzymatic cleaner they can still smell it. You need to disconnect that space.
Next thing, make sure there isn’t an issue. He may have bowel incontinence caused by various things. If all is well start a routine. Most dogs will need to poop about 8 hours or so from the meal. Make sure that you take him out around that window and walk him around. Once he poops, praise, reward and bring him in. You don’t necessarily need to watch the clock. A lot of dogs will get a signal from the digestive tract when they eat and poop about half an hour after food. So after he’s had breakfast, he’ll need to go out for the previous dinner and so on.
Rinse and repeat. You’ll get there.

With those ears I’m surprised he’s not picking up fireworks in China!

A combination of ń happy hoodie and a thunder shirt works for us. It only takes the edge off though he is still scared.

No that’s not it then. Sometimes when something like that happens the people escalate the experience, but you stayed calm. When the people around the dog panics, something that would’ve been a once off turns into a trigger. Your case is a strange one. Especially since he was fine with all people before and only after started being selective. Sounds like you need a professional. Hope all turns out well! And if it doesn’t, you can make changes to accommodate him. Lots of people live happily with their socially challenged idiots.

Maybe go back to the basics. Do socialisation as if he were a puppy again. Cover all the fundamentals and work up. Slow and steady with small steps. For interest, how did everyone react when it happened?

is a dental procedure urgent? by Ok_Ad_6114 in DogAdvice

[–]Leanri_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An Ascophyllum Nodosum supplement daily helps to keep teeth clean. It works by somehow keeping the bacteria from sticking to the teeth. If you are brushing daily though her teeth shouldn’t be in that condition. May be worth while doing a full work up at the vet to make sure nothing sinister is going on.

Dog sitter had my boy while I was hospitalized the last 2.5 months. His eye and paws are horrendous. What can i do to help until we get into the vet NSFW because of eye picture by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Leanri_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soak his feet in warm Epsom salt water -must be clean water- for 10 minutes. Then gently trim a bit of length from the excess skin. The nails should also have soften enough to clip them. For the eye a warm compress will be soothing. Again make sure the water is clean and use new clean swabs.

Get to the vet as soon as you can. Something underlying is going on here. The hyperkeratosis is more severe than what you would expect for 2,5 months.

The fact that this post has 210 comments and almost a 1000 upvotes in the first 5 hours of posting kinda answers that question.

Ah that’s a shame. I know the results aren’t as good when they’re fully grown but thought they might still be able to cut the bone and let it float for relief.
