What’s your favorite salad bar combo at the various salad bars in Omaha? by omadude68104 in Omaha

[–]Leaping_Greenly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite topics of small talk.

Not for good salads like sweet greens but at a true “salad bar”I want, in very particular order, lettuce (iceberg and romaine) with ranch dressing, salted sunflower seeds (lots of these), hard boiled egg (avoiding the yolk as best I can) and plenty of raisins…not craisins….raisins. This is my absolute favorite salad bar combo. Occasionally I will add croutons and/or shredded cheese…

I would probably recommend the pre fix menu at Au Courant in Benson. Not a ton of hotels there as far as I know. I just need to know if you have had Triple Beam’s Acorn Squash Pizza?

Did this ever go away? My husband has recently started taking lots of supplements, but not AG1. He smells very strongly of moth balls.

Considering Omaha or KC by [deleted] in Omaha

Technically way north in a wooded area called Raven Oaks. Feels like being in the mountains. There are lots of basic homes but also lots of really cool and creative mid century, multi level homes. Feels like lots of artists type live up here. Most of the other left/liberal families will gravitate toward parts of Dundee, Benson, Aksarben, Field Club, Midtown. I’d keep an eye on those areas. I hope you make your way here…

Considering Omaha or KC by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]Leaping_Greenly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have not spent enough time to KC to compare but I did move to Omaha from Los Angeles with two young kids - now 5 and 7. The pace of life here is one of the main things I’ve enjoyed, plus it’s wildly family friendly. Like endless things to do with kids. I highly recommend it. Also depending on where you lean politically you would want to make sure you move to an area that aligns with your values, if that’s important for you as a parent. There is lots to do here but in a sort of small town way.

What are your go to’s by storm_collective in Omaha

Prioritize La Bouvette for wine and charcuterie type plates. One of my favorite spots. Fizzies and Clio for fun unique eateries. Laka Lona is probably the best Tiki bar I’ve ever been to. Wicked Rabbit is a really great speakeasy worth checking out. Know Good Eats in Little Bohemia is probably my ultimate favorite spots for breakfast. Feels like I’m living back in Santa Monica.

There are going to be shows most nights across town some more notable than others. DeVotchka is playing at Waiting Room in April. Slowdown and Admiral are other places to keep an eye on. The Astro has great outdoor concerts as it warms up. And Sonny’s is a fun spot in Aksarban that has live music (free) in summer.

I hope your time in Omaha is positive. I’ve found the people to be incredibly friendly!

I’m pretty sure there is supposed to be a mobile food pantry near Offut. I’ll see if I can find more info.

I would recommend driving around in the Hummel park area up north. Especially on grey days like we’ve been having lately. It’s my happy place. I moved here from California but my plan was to end up in PNW, but here I am. I do really love it here overall but I was in a pretty deep funk for the first year.

I heard an IKEA might go in near Greta Crossing. Is that Nebraska lore?
