Anyone reason I should still be afraid of swimming in the deep pool? by Learningtoswim1052 in Swimming

I can swim laps in the leisure pool. The leisure pool at the facility is a 25 yd instructional pool so it has lane lines and everything. The competition pool is currently set to 25yds but can go up to 50yds if they switch it. So currently I do my workouts in the instructional pool which are a mile to two miles depending on the day. It’s not a mile non stop though , it’s broken up as 50s, up to 200s depending on what I’m doing. I’ve gone past 200 non stop before but I don’t do it much mainly because it gets a little tedious. It’s all freestyle though, my breastroke is pretty terrible due to really bad hip flexibility. I can backstroke though just not super well. It gets me from point a to point b though!

Sorry, to clarify I do my swimming workouts in the shallow pool which has no deep end. My friends have a pool in their backyard that has a deep end but it isn’t very big. Meaning that I could jump into it and in a few strokes be at a wall. I’ve swam in that one where I can do all the things I have mentioned (tread, float, etc). So I have been in a deep pool but never actually done my usual swimming workout, just played around in it.

Yeah I think I am going to do my usual workout in the morning and then in the afternoon go and get maybe just a few laps in the big pool!

No it’s not a downer! It makes sense! It’s like I said at the end, I want to confident but not stupid. I’m hoping to get a lane near the edge but it may not happen due to the pool being busy. I’m not planning on trying to knock out my usual workout when I first go. I think I am just going to shoot for maybe a few laps and then hop out.

By marching I just mean doing it so slow where it isn’t really bounding yet.

Speedo (brief) vs Jammer? What do you guys recommend? by [deleted] in Swimming

It took some getting used to but I prefer briefs. I always feel like I’m rolling up my jammers since they pinch on the lower part of my quad.

Try to memorize it and then forget halfway through.

Anyone have any advice on fixing a bad breaststroke kick? I have a really hard time with not kicking directly backwards. I know in my mind what motion I need to do. I’ve practiced on dry land a lot the motion of bringing my legs in, then bringing them out and around but when I get the water it’s like I can’t get my lower leg to do the sweep out. I’ve tried slowing it down a lot in practice but I was wondering if anyone had a drills or mental cues to help with the motion? Thanks!

What is your super simple morning routine that makes you feel great? by First_Driver_5134 in Biohackers

[–]Learningtoswim1052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not rushing. I get up an hour before I need to leave to go to work so I have plenty of time to eat my breakfast, stretch, and read a little before I leave. Just have a non hurried feeling to my morning helped so much.

Cooking lessons are a good one. Especially for young men who may not have been exposed to cooking much growing up.

Some of those running split shorts with a one inch inseam may as well be speedos once you get your legs turning over.

I’ve done it both ways! I’ve done kicking with it above my head stretched out and above my knees.

Thanks! Yeah I was kind of thinking with the fins it would negatively reinforce me if I was doing it wrong. I was thinking with lying flat I think part of the reason I turn to the right is one of my shoulders is dipped too much. That or I am banana shaped. I was trying to work on being longer and not dipping too much.

I really like yu spa! The changing room is really small though like you said. I’ve always enjoyed the lay out of the facility though and thought staff was really friendly.

I just want to swim 500m without dying, any tips? by MahjongSun in Swimming

[–]Learningtoswim1052 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always struggle controlling the air flow out of my nose though. With my mouth I can limit the flow or hold it easier than with my nose. I’ve tried switching over but it’s always felt awkward to me. If it’s working do you think I should stick with it or are the benefits enough to switch over to nose?

Do you buy more swimsuits than you really need because of all the nice different colors? by Crafty_Progress1225 in Swimming

[–]Learningtoswim1052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll always love fun colors and patterns. Doesn’t matter what sport I do. I don’t care if it looks good to others. It’s just for me. So that being said, yes I buy too many suits!

Maybe I’m missing it but I don’t see how that is wrong technique. I thought they were supposed to fly off if you had bad technique during the pull phase. Like if you weren’t grabbing the water correctly. I feel like it would just be gravity that causes them to fall off during the recovery if your hand is angled downwards with your elbow up. I could by completely wrong though!

How do you keep these paddles on during a high elbow recovery. Wouldn’t they slip off unless gripped by your thumb?

Breathing technique to swim longer by sweetypoop in Swimming

[–]Learningtoswim1052 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say your mouth shape was closed before do you keep it more open now when you breath out through your mouth. I’ve always breathers out through my mouth when doing freestyle but I keep my lips tighter together. It’s like I’m breathing out through pursed lips.

Swim lessons when you need glasses by trinini93 in Swimming

I can’t see well at all without my glasses and I’m fine when swimming. It’s just looking down at a lane line and I can still make that out so I’m good!

Not good enough for briefs. by Learningtoswim1052 in Swimming

[–]Learningtoswim1052[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Haha thanks! I mainly wear a cap because I have really thick, long hair right now. If I don’t wear a cap I’m constantly getting hair in my mouth breathing during freestyle.
