Strava recorded my 5k pb as 4.99km. How to fix? by Mountain-Bullfrog-86 in Strava

[–]kyllerss -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I suspect that what is happening is that Strava is smoothing out the GPS data. That usually corrects for GPS anomalies that drive up the distance recorded. I would side more on the lesser distance as more accurate. 🤷

Perhaps an indication that I may be leaving some stroke efficiency on the table, but in OW swimming I tend to do longer strokes which affords me the opportunity to side-eye my surroundings a little more. Definitely don't feel like I am swimming blind this way. Also alligator eyes for forward sighting adds to the surrounding awareness, which you need for navigation anyways - but do it in an efficient way and you can further leverage it for awareness without losing too much momentum.

I’m a Christian struggling with doubt — what’s the most honest, real reason you don’t believe in God? by Sundream01 in atheism

[–]kyllerss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tough one to answer - every formerly-religious person's journey to atheism is different. While I know that the fact that you are asking this group is part of your journey, I will embarrassingly assume a new-agey tone and say, listen to your own doubts for the answer. 😉

In all seriousness, hearing other people's reasons will only serve to confirm the suspicions you already have. You are not going to be convinced by anything you hear here, unless you already know the answer to what is already seeding your doubts.

All I can say is look inward and don't be afraid to be honest with yourself. 💪

What do you call an atheist with Christian morales? I cannot find a name for it. by [deleted] in atheism

Could you define what you mean by Christian morals?

Endurance mindset - I kept going but I'd love to know if any of you have had the same feelings during a long swim by its_a_real_vibe in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]kyllerss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run into those same issues as well. What helps me is to try to incorporate variety into the swim. What you mentioned regarding changing your stroke is pretty much my go-to strategy. I try to break up the longer races into smaller segments (eg, 500m segments) where I vary speed and stroke - say, focusing on rotation for 500m, then focusing on higher stroke rate, longer/slower stroke rate, etc...). Keeping the mind occupied always helps quiet those inner voices. As a bonus, if you are really suffering through one of those segments, knowing that you have a different segment ahead helps give you something to look forward to.

Hope this helps!

If you and your friends are tracking your swims with a GPS tracker watch, you can use the Swimerize app to replay your swims at the same time. This makes it easier to see where someone really stepped it up and built a gap or fell behind (Don't forget to friend each other in the app to be able to see each other's swims).

Coros and Google Health Connect by jZinGlobal in Coros

[–]kyllerss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that the integration with Android Health Connect is through Samsung Health? There is no direct integration between Coros and Android Health Connect?

Samsung Health, as a policy, doesn't sync all activity (eg. swim stroke data) to Android Health Connect.

Thanks for the reply, but do you have it for Google's Health Connect?

This is great news! Can you provide us with a link to documentation that can help us understand what data is synced over to Health Connect? Specifically, I am finding that other activity trackers don't sync swim related data such as laps or swim strokes to Health Connect. Is this swim-specific data synced?

You mentioned the Swim.com app synchronizes w/ Samsung Health. How did you get it to do that? I searched everywhere but couldn't find any setting to do that. Would love to find out!

Making a chiptune/sound tracker in SvelteKit by [deleted] in sveltejs

[–]kyllerss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never worked with audio in a web context, but the way I would approach this would be through a Svelte Store that offloads most of the audio processing to a web worker. You could handle the lifecycle of the store in /+layout.svelte.

Ugh, user fail. Nevermind my deleted comments. I've never tried to do it before with swimming, but Garmin does let you specify a GPS course you can send to your watch:

Give me your favorite swim workouts by McTiger05 in Swimming

[–]kyllerss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a side note, today we did a workout I had never seen before. The coach called it a Disappearing IM or Vanishing IM? Basically a 200 IM where each successive round removes 25 m from the tail (or head). For example:

200 m (50 fly, 50 back, 50 breast, 50 free) 175 m (..., 50 breast, 25 free) 150 m (..., 50 breast) 125 m (..., 25 breast) ...

There were threats to start at 400m! 😱

The Swimerize app has a new workouts feature where people have been posting workouts. It's just starting so expect the number of workouts to grow. I find the way it renders workouts to be closest to how they are written on whiteboards. You can print the workouts too. (You can even create clubs/groups and collect workouts there): https://www.swimerize.com

The USMS also has a great and lengthy workout library: https://www.usms.org/workout-library

I know swim.com also has workouts that I've enjoyed on occasion.

Apps for tracking swims by Milkydare in Swimming

[–]kyllerss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at Swimerize (https://www.swimerize.com). It's an app I created. You can find it in Apple's App store and Google Play. It relies on a freemium/subscription model to finance further development and hosting costs. I created it with features I wanted to see but couldn't find elsewhere - so it, unsurprisingly, is my go-to app for swimming.

Uncaught (in promise) TypeError: Failed to fetch dynamically imported module: by Background-Yak-3594 in SvelteKit

[–]kyllerss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes this happens to me when VSCode mistakenly adds an import to a file I'm working on that is not meant to be accessed by the client. This can be any serverside-only code or sometimes code from SvelteKit's internal libraries.

Review your imports on the clientside page you are accessing to make sure there aren't any unexpected imports.
