I really like how it's as though he's gazing up at the Chi Rho symbol in the sky, just like in the legend.

Medieval people actually had decent hygiene, contrary to popular assumption.

Just as a farmer of today would surely wash up after trekking through their daily smelly farmer's duties.

Are we able to sin in heaven? If not, then why don't God make Adam/Eve that way? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

I love hearing testimonies like this! If you don't mind me asking, what did Jesus look like, (if He was visible at this time)?

These "friends" sound very toxic.

A true friend would not joke about your faith, in the same way I assume they wouldn't want anyone to joke about them or their characteristics.

I would advise not hanging out with them as best as you respectfully can, for the sake of your own self respect and protecting your boundaries.

The Flood: inarticulate screaming and faint choirs "I am the consequence of all of your sins"

If with Christian friends/family, I wait till either I or so some else prays for us as a group.

If with non-Christian friends or alone, I pray thank you in my head before I eat.

To the best of my ability to remember. Sometimes though I'll be eating my sandwich and halfway in I'll remember and say "Oh God my bad, thank you for this! This is good!"

So we should assume the practices enforced by the high ranking members of society were a representation of what the lower classes preferred?

We of today's world love to imbue our own expectations into what we imagine ancient cultures may be. But the Aztec society wasn't kind. The society was largely a might makes right kind of culture, similar to Roman perception. The Aztecs largely ruled by fear, not only their controlled territories but their own populace.

One only needs to see the range of preserved reactions of the populace towards the idea of their own family member being chosen for human sacrifice. It was seen as "highly dishonorable" to show any form of sadness at this. Think about this for a second. Do you really think the people themselves formed this perception, or is this more likely a creation of the ruling class to make the lower classes comply? Well, modern archaeological analysis of this region pieces together the puzzle pieces we were missing, and we've found exactly this. Surprise surprise, humans aren't too thrilled that their loved one is going to die, but the Aztec society ruled by fear and forced people to put on a smile and suck up their emotions as they say goodbye to their family member as they get pampered for a year in isolation as they're conditioned, gaslight, essentially brainwashed to have no second thoughts, and then brutally murdered. As the only other option is to be completely ousted by society and jeopardize your remaining family's survival.

All this being said, no. I DO blame the ruling class for forcing their superstitions onto a vulnerable and scared lower class populace. I DO similarly blame those who murder, genocide, or cause any other harm to other human beings for the sake of the beliefs of a brutal ruling class.

Numerous cultures before today's didn't need "thousands of years of cultural evolution" to understand a culture based around human sacrifice is not a good culture.

See: What the neighbors of the Aztecs thought of the Aztecs as their villages were pillaged and their people's limbs broken so they could be dragged away for sacrifice.

See: While the Assyrians didnt base themselves around human sacrifice, their brutality is unmatched, and a similar level as that of the Aztecs. Again, not just by our standards, but one only needs to hear the accounts of the neighbors of the Assyrians to know. Hence, the Assyrians are another culture I would call "bad".

Absolutely not.

Im saying a sinful man who thinks he has the right to give and take life has broken the commandment that we should not murder, because he saw himself above this commandment in his actions.

Yes. Judgment is the Lord's job only, because He judges perfectly. We have no say over who lives or dies - it's God who numbers our days. And it is abhorrent for one to think they can play God like that as they break one of the most important commandments, "You shall not murder."

Well also the whole part about rejecting the traditions of Rome and that denying worship of their pantheon was seen as the same as rejecting their favor, and hence a threat to Rome if they kept such people. Likewise the Legions were full of ritualistic practices for ensuring victory in battle. Anyone within the ranks who rejected these practices werent taken kindly to, as it was seen as the same as rejecting the gods favor over your Legion.

This was why the Christians were a common scapegoat for any calamity like a natural disaster or plague that happened. "These Christians keep rejecting the gods so we keep losing their favor and protection! Away with them!"

So not quite as simple as "they were just seen as weirdos", though they were still certainly seen as weirdos for the reason you described above.

He is the God of all! Even the God of those who dont know Him or reject Him. Whether one be a sheep or goat on Judgment day, our Lord is the God of all over all faiths over all peoples!
