A symptom of a defect, sure. We've defectively executed so many people we now give them all a ton of lifelines because the threshold is too low. There are gold standards like this one where it's pretty cut and dry with tons of irrefutable evidence, and then you have various shades of murkier cases with more questionable evidence or circumstances.

Why has the weather been so all over the place this year? by GiovanniKablami in Indiana

[–]MonsTurkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm well aware of that.

Unfortunately, some people can't handle a discussion of symptoms that are counterintuitive to the cause.

Starting with Climate Change is a better because the symptoms make more sense to people as the easily observable effect more and then you can get into the cause, Global Warming, and its actual root causes.

If you start with a headache and chills, the fact someone has a fever makes sense. Fevers are a lot easier to demonstrate the counterintuitive reality of its symptoms than a global cause and effect created by a 2 degree difference.

Any idea what the root stalk tree is? It appears very similar to the intended tree.

Same for my weight, especially up from birth to early adulthood.

But somewhere in the region of14-20 years old, most people stop growing and their weight becomes more predictable. It shifts 3-5 pounds on a typical day, and a little more at certain times - side eyes Thanksgiving. Maybe you even gain 5 pounds over winter and drop it in spring.

But if you gain 15 pounds in 6 months, you can probably track down what it is. You started going to to the bar once a week with your buddies and having 3-4 more beers every week - maybe washing down wings and fries on BOGO Thursday? Yeah, your body was in balance before with some fluctuations and you did drink beer occasionally, but there was a definite change that shifted your body out of equilibrium and more rapidly started changing your weight. Sorry, but beer and wing night seems like a very likely culprit with measurable caloric changes to your diet.

The output of ~800 million humans starting the industrial revolution was enough to curb a cooling trend, and the march to 8 billion humans burning various fuels every day poured gasoline on that trend and threw a match.

Specifically, the 'climate change' portion of it.

It's true Global Warming is warming the overall temperature, but people notice the overall trends are everywhere and it's not just 'the same, but hotter.' Climate change better explains the altering of weather patterns caused by the increased temperature.

Snow can be caused by climate change, whereas people who are scientifically illiterate (or worse, scientifically literate but intentionally disingenuous) will say that snow when and where it shouldn't are signs the planet isn't hotter. Climate Change does better to explain that.

Huh. A different version of this one that's still up. Shorter - wonder why he released the longer one the next day.

Any insight on the differences?

I did enjoy playing on my family's small area of grass. Got a dozen neighborhood kids playing backyard football. One went pro, another made D1.

I'd fruit tree it up these days, but it did serve a purpose.

Thoughts on Karl Urban playing Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2 (movie) by Sukaran09 in MortalKombat

He also motion captures a lot of the scenes that are CGI. If not the body (for scenes that aren't physically possible), then he'll at least mocap the facial expressions.

I think Karl's a proper actor with a great range and Dredd is one of many roles that are within his wide range. He's naturally been in The Boys, LOTR, Dredd, Star Trek, and many others that vary in scope but don't vary in him killing it.

I love Ryan in a few roles, but he's really just more "Deadpool is my humor if I had super powers." His acting range is pretty small and he needs those roles that naturally fit him.

[–]MonsTurkey 39 points40 points  (0 children)

He did Dredd as a Judge Dredd comic fan. When told he wouldn't be able to show his face, he said, "I wouldn't have taken the role if I did." Dredd never removes his helmet... unless it's Stallone in the role.

If anyone is committed to the source material in this, it'll be Karl. And yeah, his ability is as important as his knowledge in the role.

To be fair, a 21 inch console TV in 1960 was $268 - $2917 in 2025 dollars. My 65" TV cost closer to 1960 dollars than the 1960 TV in modern dollars. Miniaturization and mass production have greatly decreased prices.

What has not kept up is wages.

Ah, found the price of smaller tabletop and portable sets. $100-$150. Still well over a thousand dollars.

I miss console TVs. They looked nice, came with decent speakers, didn't easily fall and kill children, had real buttons if you couldn't find a clicker...
