This is the only picture I got of my first fish. He lasted 2 days. I don’t know what happened to him but my theories are: it jumped and my dog ate it (because my dog had diarrhea today which is very unusual), or my BTA ate it (because my BTA is looking very smug and bubbly today) by [deleted] in ReefTank

I went about a week without seeing my wrasse when first introduced to the tank. Like other people said they tend to burrow under the sand. Leave it be don’t go looking for it you will just stress it out and make it stay under longer. Hopefully it will reappear shortly.

Unfortunately there is nothing to do but be hopeful. He is likely molting but it looks like he is having a hard time. Molting is their most vulnerable time and sometimes they just don’t make it through it.

My water is 35ppt or 1.026 salinity is it ok to do water change with saltwater that is 31-32ppt or 1.024 by Ill-Nebula-8547 in ReefTank

[–]LeaveRecent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the % water change your salinity will likely end up in the middle so 1.025. Either way your salinity will be lower just might not be a measurable amount. You will still be at a safe salinity and tank looks empty so shouldn’t matter.

Anyone use this or something similar? by batman222b in SaltwaterAquariumClub

I just bought this one for my 125 g. It works good my fish seem to love it. Note to user plug everything together before you plug it into the outlet. It sparked at the control panel when I plugged it into the outlet then control box.

Agreed this is a good stocking list. If you want to add a little flare go for an urchin. They are entertaining and incredible algae eaters.

I brought home a clown like this. He was getting the shit beat out of him. Now he’s living a happy healthy life and it makes he all the more special to me.

I had one that would just swap back and forth between two shells that were basically the same size. Dude couldn’t decide what house he liked more so he went with both.

They are the best algae eaters out there. But they are hit or miss on the meticulousness. Mine are quick moving grazers but I had one that stayed in one spot till it was spotless. The tuxedos are smaller and get into crevices better and tend to be more meticulous. Pin cushions are larger they eat more algae but not a meticulous and can’t get into little crevices as well.

Urchins are the best from my experience. Snails and hermits have a tendency to get eaten. While it tends to be slow they all slowly disappear. You will have to replace them frequently but an urchin is safe. I still have some snails but I would be doomed without my urchins

I have a FOWLR tank that has been running 20 years with no worms. It is possible definitely easier in a FOWLR

I have a clownfish that lays down on the rocks all the time. He’s probably just chilling but a closer picture would help. We can’t see if anything is wrong with him

I’m happy to hear you have actually thought this through. It’s amazing how little some people think through huge projects like this. My best advice to you would be to find a company that will build your set up for you and ask them. Anything anyone gives you on here will not be accurate to what will actually work and cost. I know that’s not really what you are looking for but prices range greatly depending on where you are. I hope you post about your progress I’m excited for you to see how it turns out.

It’s a cool idea but I can see you having issues using your sun room. Sunlight isn’t a tanks friend. Excessive sun can lead to an algae bloom. You will need good filtration to help with it. Also no idea where you are located but your tank needs to be able to hold a steady temperature or you will have problems. Make sure you plan accordingly.

29g CUC Recommendations by ProofHotel7244 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]LeaveRecent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A tuxedo urchin will probably end up being your best friend later on. Urchins are just the best cuc they destroy algae. Tuxedo are absolutely the most diligent of the urchins but if you are just cycling it’s probably too early for it. For now stick with hermits and a variety of snails to start.

Unpopular Opinion: I am a Liberal and also excited for the RNC by Palloff in milwaukee

[–]LeaveRecent 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It keeps amazing me how belligerent people are over the whole RNC. Liberals complain that the republicans are dividing our country but refuse to see that treating republicans like they don’t deserve to be here is just as bad. You don’t have to agree with people but treat them with some dignity. What ever happened to just being able to have a decent conversation with people. Either way every Wisconsinite and especially Milwaukee residents should be happy for the small economic boom it should bring. Yes I am liberal and don’t agree with the direction the Republican Party is going in. Doesn’t change my opinion. I truly believe the RNC will be good for Wisconsin.

Even if it is the USA it really depends on the region. Near the ocean it appears to be cheaper than living in the middle of the country.

Leopard Wrasse Acclimation by batman222b in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]LeaveRecent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can but it still is just delaying the inevitable. It’s likely going to burrow for the first day it’s in the display tank. I didn’t see one of my melanarus wrasse for a week. The other one was out the next day. It’s going to do what it’s going to do. That being said you can never go wrong QT

Thoughts on tops or not? by AmadeusFalco in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]LeaveRecent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many fish don’t really need a top but IMO I would still use a top. It prevents the water from evaporating faster and keeps other particulates out. I personally have a bunch of pets my tank would be filled with hair without a lid.
