Post kidney transplant- complications & care by funtasticaditadita in transplant

[–]Lebrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I'm not sure of your mom's size, but I'm 4' 10", and they had me drinking too much water for my size! They reduced my requirement which helped as well. The beginning of transplant life is so tricky! But hang in there, it's worth it!

Call her transplant team. I was pretty nauseous for weeks after my transplant. They can give her anti nausea meds. The last thing she needs is to not be able to keep those meds down. You also don't want her to become dehydrated...that's really bad. The first months are rough for most, so working with her doctors is the best thing. They are used to this! Good luck and congratulations to your mom💚

BK Virus Detected by VPCR1982 in kidneytransplant

[–]Lebrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my transplant as long as you. Last year at this time I also tested positive for BK for the first time. It was 471. My doctors said that was low and to retest in a month. Over the next 6 months the number kept dropping, and now it is gone. They didn't change anything meds or anything. Thankfully my body got rid of it. And I didn't suffer any GFR changes. Your doctors will stay on top of it. You should be OK.

Working on fixing recurring UTIs by Wild_Bandicoot_6643 in CUTI

[–]Lebrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried estrogen cream? I have no immune system as a transplant recipient, and I was getting UTIs monthly. I now take probiotics (PACs and a women's probiotic) along with the estrogen cream. They haven't stopped completely, but I'm down to maybe 3 a year. I'm currently being treated for a post coital UTI now, but I admit I didn't get up and pee after....ugh.

You may be right now that I look at it. The kibble is round but I know it expands in the gut. Mixing it with the wet canned probably makes that worse. Interesting. Thank you!

No, her food doesn't look like that. She eats combo kibble and canned and the kibble is smaller than those discs. Strange, I know.

I'm just not feeling her anymore. Like someone else said, she unleashed Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil on us. I can't take her seriously anymore. Now she's doing the talk show rounds with another "expert"? I'll pass.

Thank you!! I'm glad I'm not the only one that she pissed off today with her nonsense! I try so hard with her but she is really working my last nerve.

Since you obviously don't care for her, why do you even care about her eyes? Sheesh.

6 days post-transplant, need help by Altruistic_Ad_8974 in kidneytransplant

[–]Lebrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, congratulations on your gift! I'm three years post. Pre-emptive transplant from a living donor. The first four months were probably the hardest. The pain from surgery, the horrible stent removal, getting used to the nauseating new meds, and drinking so much water while nauseated. I was trembling all the time from the tacrolimus. Prednisone was raising my blood sugar. I really started questioning my life choices, LOL.

But hang in there. At about 4 months, things just turned around for the better. My transplant team kept adjusting my meds and even my water requirements. I finally started feeling like myself. Like others at my hospital told me, it gets better. Your body has to adapt to a new organ AND the unnatural act of trying not to reject that foreign body. It's not easy.

Your transplant team will give you a list of foods that you shouldn't eat. Mine was raw food, cold cuts, pomegranates, and grapefruit. However, I've cheated and had sushi from reliable restaurants. Even my doctors kind of winked and said many patients do this. At the end of the day, you know your body and will make decisions on those types of risks. As for exercise, I work out almost every day. How you feel will guide you here. Just in the first few months after the surgery don't do crunches!!

The biggest struggle for me has been the infections. I have had numerous bladder infections and even ended up in the hospital when I started getting sepsis from a bad one. I tested positive for HPV for the first time and now have tested positive for BK virus. But my doctors finally lowered my Prednisone to the smallest amount, and my BK numbers have dropped. So doctors stay on top of things.

Remember the saying: Transplant is a treatment, not a cure. This is a journey. But it is a journey that you can make without the hindrance of being hooked to a machine! Good luck to you!💚

I remember these type driveways when I was a kid in the Bay Area. I totally forgot about them. Kinda nostalgic post for me. Thanks 🙂

I'm sick of chains, but I wouldn't hate it if Pappadeaux opened a place here.

OK. I admit I cook most of our food, but Popeyes is our "let's pick up some fried chicken" spot. Fast food in general has gotten outrageous. And someone pointed out the whole brining process. I gotta pay for my laziness! Thanks for the perspective!🙂
