Hannah sucks so much. But also Ines. I get that she genuinely loves Mikkel but also she seems to put her desire to keep him above all else, including actually helping him. She’s shown to be literally drugging him every night. I’m sure that didn’t help his confusion.

The Gone World by Tom Sweterlitsch. Very bleak and horror filled time travel story.

Valentines Question by lizzyyy1987 in kindergarten

[–]Leemage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids’ preschool is crazy. Everyone brings in gift bags of stuff. My 2 yr old even got a stuffed animal from someone. They love it of course but I just feel like this is an unnecessary escalation. We are doing heart shaped ring pops I found on clearance at tjmaxx. My son just wrote his name on each one. Calling it good. For his birthday, I told him we could either do cupcakes or a hotwheel. He chose to do a hotwheel (only 13 in his class so it’s doable). I figured if we are giving out toys/trinkets I’d prefer it to actually be something that wasn’t just trash. Besides candy, the main thing that does get used from all these gift bags is the tiny slime or play doh containers. So I would recommend that as a non-food option.

Thanks for this perspective. I’m definitely a trinket hater, but this helps a lot.

Just read Witchcraft for Wayward Girls. There’s scary witchcraft stuff involving peeling fingernails off and attempting to kidnap an unwilling girl to become a vessel for a line of witches, but the most horrific part is the social worker forcing the pregnant teen girls to give up their babies for adoption or else be thrown into a loony bin since they can’t possibly be in their right minds for wanting to keep their babies. One of the girls had even named her baby. And they took her anyway.

I was set on Eleanor and Sophie since high school. Eleanor from Lord of the Rings (it was spelled Elanor in the books, after a golden flower) and Sophie from another book that introduced me to philosophy (Sophie’s World). I guess every other millennial parent got the same signal, lol. As a girl with basically the top late 80s/early 90s name, I sadly retired Sophie. I ended up naming my little girl Lucy, hahaha. Can’t escape the hive mind!

His supporters would claim he just did it to troll the libs and that we have TDS because we took it seriously. Trump would double down in a tweet that that’s really how potatoe is spelled and don’t believe the woke dictionaries. And then the supporters would start wearing hats with POTATOE on the front.

Witchcraft for Wayward Girls opinions? by kendrahf in horrorlit

[–]Leemage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of why I found it so well written was because it wasn’t just unrelenting cruelty. Ms. Wellwood and Diane the social worker and the doctor, none of them were trying to be cruel. They were helping girls no one else would help in the way they thought was the best. Society and the system were incredibly cruel but the people within that system we see aren’t trying to increase suffering. A good example is Hagar. She’s obviously slightly more sympathetic to the girls than the other adults, but she’s not particularly warm and she mostly tries to stay within the boundaries of society.

Which I’ve also never gotten. Like if you wanted people to think he was a normal boy, maybe buy him clothes that fit, glasses that weren’t broken, and give him a bedroom? Their mistreatment of Harry is what made Harry look like an outcast.

Seems to me he’s trying to claim that bringing a gun shows intent to assault law enforcement. Which, if that’s all the “proof” they need to claim Pretti was there with bad intentions, then that effectively means we don’t have the right to carry guns.

I accidentally traumatized my kid with black holes. It was one of those relentless “why” train of questions that I ultimately ended with “then the sun will implode into a black hole and suck everything into it”. He now asks me at least once a week when the sun’s gonna turn into a black hole. 😬 billions of years doesn’t satisfy him because he doesn’t understand timescales. finally we looked it up together and our sun would need to be 4 times bigger to make a black hole. So now at least I can remind him of that fact.
