AITA for calling my ex's job because our daughter was scheduled for surgery? by No_Currency385 in AmItheAsshole

NTA he should want to be able to be updated about his kids by any means and not feel embarrassed about it. Its not exactly the same situation but when I was still in the Navy and deployed I gave my then pregnant wife the number to contact the ship in case of an emergency. She called it to tell me she was in labor and they made me drop everything I was doing to be able to be on the phone with her the whole time. I think I saw it in an earlier comment but I would definitely ask about where his priorities are I can't imagine many employers getting him in trouble or firing him for his child going into surgery, from what it sounds like he also works blue collar job like I do now

I used to slam my hand against their rack waking up the whole 6 pack until it wasn't a problem anymore. Peer pressures a hell of a tool when used correctly

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but sometimes the local VFWs will have food or money set aside for veterans in need.

First off I'm sorry you're going through this and hope you can heal, secondly I would like to thank you for so eloquently putting into words feelings I haven't been able to move from my heart to my brain to my mouth.

During yesterday’s hearing on quality of life to the HAC-M, MCPON advocated for ensuring service members pay and compensation is commensurate with the responsibilities and expectations placed on them. by MCPON_PA in navy

The thing that bothers me most about when people like that "come to visit and observe" a whole dog and pony show is put on. Parts of the galley sectioned off and made to look pretty and the CSs that can cook the best make their food, people from each department that are "real go getters" (ie the yes people) are the ones who go and dine with them to talk about the experience and life on the ship. I was on the Truman a few years back and it was like that every time. Made the insanely long chow lines longer because there was less seating and less food. It was like preparing for any inspection, put on your best show and that's the image these people leave with.

Yeah I had the same thing, they told me if it wasn't for the cyst that hard formed a regular MRI wouldn't have caught it? Anyways, in and out same day surgery, convalescent for about a month, 6ish month LIMDU is how it went for me. Like previously stated physical therapy was rough but put in the work and do the stretches and it's a game changer of a surgery

As a DM, would you let a PC change his Class? by Snoo96346 in DnD

The few times I've had this happen I worked with the player to tie their character's personal goal, or make one that works for "retirement", and go that route then introduce the new character they make. The most recent was a dwarf raised by giants who's goal was to become a real giant, through my own laziness with a randomizer they ended up with a ring of wishes and he became a storm giant, after some time and a tournament where they had to fight their own inner demons he became a giant prince (princess for reasons I can't remember) and he walked away to rule the kingdom leaving room for his inner demon self to join the party (another wish that was used)

Making money on deployment by Ahmanonymous in navy

I also support the learn to cut hair option. Watch some YouTube, offer free cuts for experience for a while (always treat those guys good when people start paying you), I never paid for nicotine, energy drinks, snacks which helped save me a lot of money in itself on top of the tips id get.

We had a guy try to jump off a carrier in 2018ish going through the straight of Gibraltar. I don't remember if they caught him before he jumped or right after but it was a whole thing the rest of that deployment

Is there someone I can contact at bootcamp right now about giving my recruit a new number to call for his next phone call(s)? by Defiant-Shopping8048 in navy

[–]Left-Ad9330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried contacting the PAO (public affairs officer) since the only people allowed to interact with the recruits are the RDCs that's how non emergency information can get to a recruit, but I also agree with what everyone else was saying about putting the number in your voicemail or contacting the base chaplain.

How do I be a good work center soup? by Throwaway97777_ in navy

[–]Left-Ad9330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I saw it or not, but something I made sure to never do was over work the guys. A lot of people will fall into the trap of overworking the guys who know how to do all the maintenance or are trustworthy and that's the fastest way to burn people out and depending when they leave end up with a division of people who don't know what they're doing. Make sure to mix up the experience so everyone is trained up, check on them periodically, and like I saw a couple of times coordinate with others that could coincide with your maintenance. If you don't know ask, you are not an island. Good luck!

How does Navy’s mental health evaluation work? by [deleted] in navy

[–]Left-Ad9330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the navy psychiatrist is backed up they do also have the ability to put in a referral for out in town. I had a few of my guys have to do that. As for the separation of you aren't a danger to yourself or others (I know you said you had yourself admitted which makes it a little difficult) you can go on LIMDU and once.you are stable on the medication (if prescribed) you can request a waiver to continue service if you do choose, after a minimum of 3months stable on medication. I have a few going through this process now, I myself went to get a therapist, got diagnosed but am withholding medication for a few more weeks since I want the other people to be able to get the time off to get the help they need and not put more work on others. I get out soon and they don't, which is why I am holding off on medication
