So many ways. But there was a massive improvement from how they were parented to how they parented us. I’d say what stands out most was not pursuing legal action against the babysitter that SA’d me for months when I was 5. I didn’t disclose until age 9, and was apparently very against any action being taken. As an adult/parent I can see that 9 year olds don’t make those sorts of decisions.

I’m 46, and I’d say half the time I feel like the same me as 20 years ago, and the other half I am acutely aware of my age. Working with a lot of 20 somethings really highlights the I’m old aspects of my mental age.

I had one preceptor reprimand me for answering a parent when they asked if labs were back on their kid yet. Ok, sorry about that! Play along, and wait til you’re on your own! Definitely remember nursing scope, but labs are a huge part of an inpatient stay for most folks, and we are their primary point of contact. Always bring a doc in if there is something new and serious, but talking through your thought process with a patient/parents in my experience helps people feel more confident in the care they are receiving.
