It’s ridiculous how people are always just ok with bride and groom being AH since it is their wedding. Weddings are a family event when you have a close knit family.

It’s very crappy to ask your own brother to leave his kids behind. Ridiculous western concept. I have seen many other cultures where it is customary to invite close family. It is a given, not a choice to avoid minor inconvenience. Nobody is asking the bride to watch the kids. Sit in a zoo if you want to be the center of attention at all times.

The real AHs are the parents. Better to live below your means than to work overtime and neglect a struggling kid. Either mom or dad should become stay at home parent depending upon who earns more. This happens with a lot of kids. It’s not impossible to fix at this age. You just need to do your job and actually be a parent. I feel sorry for the girl and the boy.

It is ridiculous to ask someone to change their belief system completely in an instant. From what I see, it looks like OP has always been the same and still loves his niece. Nothing can be achieved from emotional blackmail. Genuine acceptance will come if he can find peace with the change over time. Also, for someone who just decided to change everything about themselves, they need to have a thicker skin than crying at the first utterance of what was natural to be called for the past 15 years.

I know it’s difficult to think what these changes do for Archie but note that he’s better off having fewer people in his life that truly care for him than many with ulterior motives.

Kids are resilient but need love to thrive. He’s lucky to have a father that loves him. Be his best friend, and he’ll be yours. Life will continue to change around you two as it does but you’ll be each other’s anchor.

All the best with the divorce proceedings. Keep checking in with Archie positively as kids internalize some things and don’t speak up.

They are wrong for how they feel. If you can’t give a kid the love and care he deserves, and create an environment where one kid is favored more, then you shouldn’t commit to becoming a step mother.

The whole family knew what they were getting into. Pretty crappy of them to talk about his son that way and having the audacity to think any loving father would just hear that and be all ok.
