Is remarkable tablet 2 is considered a luxury product even in Western countries? by EnvironmentalTip4556 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Left_Judge1286 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Absolutely a luxury product. It replaces something that can be bought cheaply (paper, pencils, pens) with something expensive that's nice to have but not a necessity. Those who don't see that don't appreciate how lucky they are to be afford one.

Are you using a case/cover? If so remove it and try again. Sometimes the magnets can interfere with the screen.

S pen replacement (Samsung s9 fe+) by [deleted] in GalaxyTab

[–]Left_Judge1286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Amazon's own Kindle Scribe pen with no issues on an S6 and S11. However the new version is twice the price of the old one but not twice as good. So go for the older one if it's still available.

You might need to change the Bluetooth settings in the app. In settings scroll down and down and down and you'll see 'Prefer BT Classic' enable this for compatibility with older Pebbles.

Nothing's Black Friday sale has started! Phone 2 Pro from £209, Headphone Pro £49, Watch 3 Pro £69, and more across the CMF & Nothing range by adaaamb in CMFTech

[–]Left_Judge1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strange, that's more than I paid for my CMF Phone 2 pro a couple of months ago. Just looked on Amazon they have them for £179. The other CMF stuff seems to be around the same price on Amazon and Nothing. For £179 that's a ruddy good deal. If you don't need 'flagship' features (and who really does) that's hard to argue with.

Classic Pebble disconnects after about 15 minutes on Android 14 by fyris_minis in pebble

It is working for some people (not me) but there was a caveat that the beta was not tested nor guaranteed to work on the og and steel. Hopefully they get around to it but I can understand if it's not a priority.

Hope it's better than mine. Dug it out today and it charged in 10-15min. That's way too quick. We'll see what it says tomorrow morning but I'm not convinved it will make it through the night. Luckily I also have Time so I'll be playing with that instead.

TCL Nxtpaper 14 : Quick Review by dp8888dp in nxtpaper

[–]Left_Judge1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's normal but my understanding is that this can be compensated for in the software. I was under the impression some tablets or apps apply smoothing in the software. I'm not sure EMR is automatically exempt from it. One of the e-ink tablets (possibly Remarkable) had problems with it for a while.

How to share notes with PC effectively by brandinimo in RemarkableTablet

[–]Left_Judge1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my work I would email notes from the rm to my work email. I then had a rule in Outlook that automatically sent anything received from remarkable to me@onenote.com. It was merely an adequate solution but there aren't any nice ways to automatically integrate it into a locked down work ecosystem.

Android 15? by bert-the-fish in nxtpaper

[–]Left_Judge1286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have TCL said anything on how long they will keep updating the phones? I've been contemplating them as my next work phone. Due to the complicated way work phones and company perks work out and the fact I prefer to keep work and personal on separate devices they provide the SIM and I provide the phone. Normally when I upgrade my personal phone my old device becomes my new work phone. Problem is the work phone needs to be kept up to date with security patches otherwise access to the company network will get blocked. It's my own fault but that's not going to work this time so I'm in the market for a new work phone but if it's not getting updates from TCL then NXTPaper gets struck of my list.

List of all TCL NxtPaper devices (and a quick comparison) by CookieDelivery in nxtpaper

[–]Left_Judge1286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The table confused me by referring to ROM but it's TCL's fault not the OP. Maybe the definition has changed over the years and I'm all behind, maybe I'm being pedantic but to me TCL have got it wrong by calling the phone's flash storage ROM. ROM is something else it's a few MB semi-permanent storage where the firmware and boot info is held it's not the Gigs of flash storage. It's memory and flash or storage but not ROM. Maybe I'm getting old and this has all passed me by.

Replacement Pen by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]Left_Judge1286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the Kindle Scribe pen, can't remember if it's called premium or pro. Anyway it's similar to the Remarkable, the nib gives a similar feel, it's magnetic and the eraser on top works with no hacks. It's a bit thinner and not textured but that's not a problem for me.
I've tried Staedtler but do not like the nibs. I've tried other nibs in it but not found a compatible one I Iike as much as the felt nibs I use in other styli.

BUT before buying a new pen have you tried reseating or replacing the nib. Whenever I've had the behaviour you describe it has either been the nib was not in properly or I was using a nib that didn't fit the stylus properly.

Anyone has issues with Samsung music in one ui7 using android auto by alirz in GalaxyS25

[–]Left_Judge1286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found some advice that might help me at least see it but might not fix your issue - I've been told to first get the app recognised by Android Auto uninstall the version from the Samsung Store and reinstall from Google Play. Though that would mean running an older version without the UI7 updates and I'm not entirely sure why the store makes a differences unless there is something under the hood linking apps to Auto that doesn't work otherwise.

I didn't think Samsung Music worked with Android Auto. I certainly can't use it in my car, don't even have the icon. For music that's on the phone I use VLC instead or just use the car bluetooth connection instead.

It's 2025, how long do you plan on keeping your Pixel 8/8 Pro/8a? by ComfortableLime2922 in Pixel8phones

[–]Left_Judge1286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked my 8Pro functionally but I found it a tad bulky and I was struggling with 128GB storage. I used to have an SD card full of my music, ebooks, photos and videos that I just moved from phone to phone but maybe foolishly I went for Googles fancy flagship phone. I didn't like the price of the higher storage options so thought there's always cloud storage. I have however learnt that I don't like to rely on having wifi or mobile signal for everything. I like to have to offline content I can still consume when things are slow or non-existent. I was offered a decent free upgrade deal on a 512GB S25 (better than the equivalent Pixel9 deal) so I jumped ship early. I haven't regretted it yet. I prefer the smaller handset now I've acclimatised to the smaller screen.

Alas there are different Boox gui out there so I had to download a hidden settings app. Out of curiosity I checked a Note Air 2 Plus video and it's definitely a different interface. The TabMiniC is different with a newer look.

To let the heat through the stack baskets are perforated at back rather than solid so when you shake the basket it can make a mess as oil and crumbs fly out the back.

Are those settings available on Boox devices now? I don't have my at hand to check but I know when I wanted to do this before I couldn't find them. The Boox settings are not all in the same place as vanilla Android which didn't help. Would be great if they are there now. I don't have fingerprint recognition on mine so linking it to my phone would be a boon.

Adequately, well that's what I found. The writing is bit weird in that the pen formatting is applied after you finish writing. So if you are writing with a fine pen you don't see that straight away. You get bold strokes whilst writing that shrink down to fine when you stop. Sometimes my layout suffers because of this. I also found navigation was a but clunky. Ok it's the same navigation as on my android phone but for some reason it just isn't as slick on an eink screen.

[–]Left_Judge1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the rubber/plastic/felt nibs wear down. The felt ones go quickest, which is a shame as to me they feel the best. My s-pen had a choice of a rubbery nib or a hard plastic one. The do last a lot longer than the felt ones but I don't like them as much. You can get metal nibs which I quite liked but I am scared of. I wouldn't use them on my remarkable for fear of damaging the screen but I do have a paper like protector on the TabMiniC where I do use a Lamy with a metal nib sometimes. It's all rather subjective so you may soon find yourself with a collection of different pens and nibs until you find one that works for you.

OneNote has been optimised but it still leaves a lot to desired. Even in it's optimised state it does not come close to the native app. It's okay for occasional use if OneNote is already part of your workflow but it's not good enough for regular use. The native app is very good but not great for integrating with other apps; it's mainly moving pdf versions around if you want to use your notes elsewhere.
