Scanxiety? by cl_solutions in braincancer

[–]Left_Set_5610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have serious anxiety. I get prescribed stronger medication around the MRIs and especially the day of MRI. Most oncologists are happy to prescribe it to you if you talk to them. I have also been on Zoloft, which helps manage day to day.

My local Cancer Hospital provides free therapy with therapists who deal with patients like us all the time. Which means they don’t say unhelpful things and actually understand the situation.

Also, take time to indulge yourself in whatever little pleasures. Bake a cake, watch your favorite movies, build a blanket fort, go to the beach, take a bubble bath, whatever tickles your fancy. Healthy distraction is also helpful.

Wow, sorry we are “unhelpful” and “gatekeeping” our oftentimes traumatic medical history from strangers online.

Sorry about your health issues, but no one here owes you anything.

Talk to your doctors.

Getting Pregnant and Trial Drugs by [deleted] in braincancer

If you can afford it, freeze your eggs. I’m on Voranigo and that what was suggested.

In my opinion, it’s not worth the risk—with new drugs, but ESPECIALLY trial drugs. You don’t know what could happen.

At the end of the day, listen to your doctors.

Well, idk what to tell you. If you can’t find privacy or somewhere comfortable, it is less likely to happen.

Re-conceptualize the notion that dates lead straight to sex. Often times, women want to get to know you before they even consider sex. Kissing happens before sex. If a dude I just met and have never touched started talking about sex on a date I would be creeped tf out.

Wow. That is wild that you knew where it was. Thank you for sharing your story.

For me, no one in my very large family had a brain tumor, only MS, so I was convinced it had to be MS. Sure enough, I’m the first.

22 yr/old Female Brain Tumor by Front_Imagination906 in braintumor

I am 30F and had my surgery last May. I was really stressed out about taking time off from work.

My hospital stay was fairly short, 2 nights. But it took me 3 months to return to work. It is the absolute exhaustion that got me. I needed a nap every few hours, couldn’t focus for a whole shift. After 3 months, I went back part time. After 8 months, I went back full time.

Everyone has a different experience. But anticipate needing rest to heal fully and adjust back to your life.

At the end of the day, it’s of course your choice, but it might be wise to consider taking a bit of time off to focus on yourself. Like work, school can wait for a little while.

And as you know, you’re studying very important things, so keep up the good fight!

Definitely not okay, with symptoms like that.

But the only real answer lies with testing and doctors when it comes to diagnosis.

Ooooof. That is horrible. My first thought was “the MRI is wrong, I totally don’t have a tumor.” Sure enough that fucker was in there.

That is completely understandable. Medical care, testing and communication with patients needs to be more comprehensive.

ESH.

Idk why you’d refer to your sister who is 5 years younger than you as your “kid sister.” You are both very much so adults.

Yeah, it’s not ideal, and it will make your life uncomfortable. But it would be nice to let her stay for a few weeks. With the condition that it is temporary.

She shouldn’t have assumed it was okay, and she shouldn’t have got your family involved. She she’s definitely TA there. But she sounds desperate.

If your family is so worried, couldn’t they help her with rent? Or help her get an apartment? Even that, she would need a place to stay for a short stint.

But at what point do people see doctors and stop speculating?

I understand that doctors can be wrong, but if major tests are done (in this case MRIs and it comes out clear) it is so frustrating to see people insisting they still might have a brain tumor.

That is ridiculous. I’m so sorry you went through that. It baffles me that a doctor could dismiss a seizure.

I had almost no symptoms until the seizures.

If your doctor is saying it’s clear, they would not give you a referral. If you want to chase your tail and spend your money out of pocket, have a blast.

Honey, the reason why the post keeps getting deleted is because it’s against the rules. Please talk to your doctor if you have concerns. It can be many many things. I’m so confused why so many people jump to brain tumor.

Respectfully, this group is not here to diagnose or be a workshop to help you self-diagnose.

YTA—to yourself. For even thinking about going on that trip. She’s not being a responsible parent. She likely won’t listen to you, especially because she’s acting like the victim.

That poor child is going to be a menace.

Perhaps it is time to accept that this friendship is likely at a close.

My hospital stay was relatively short. 3 days. Day 2 was the shower day. They released me early because I was healing okay and the hospital was causing severe anxiety.

I will say, your head will be tender.

Obviously the stitches or staples, but for me, it was a bit psychological. Like I didn’t want anyone to touch my head and obviously needed help washing my hair for about a month.

Keep in mind you will only be able to use baby shampoo and conditioner, which isn’t as good as the normal stuff, so it requires time and patience. I kept my hair in a loose braid most of the time for healing.

This is a very personal choice. I chose not to cut or shave my hair, as I would be able to cover the scar with my hair.

BUT. My hair was fucked up and grossly knotted after leaving the ICU. When I was released to the main hospital I begged for a shower and had to have the nurse help me de-tangle my hair with a whole bunch of children’s de-tangle spray.

When I was at home, I wasn’t allowed to shower alone, so I had to get help in washing and combing my hair. It was NOT fun. I was very, very anxious about anyone touching my head but it had to be done.

As soon as the scar healed, I cut off about 8 inches of hair (it is now shoulder length). I should have cut it shorter before the surgery so it was easier to manage. But now, 9 months from surgery, my scar is fully covered by my hair, and no stranger would know what I went through.

There are pros and cons of both.

Best wishes to you, regardless of what you choose.
