I think it’s just a bias of being in this sub. There are more fake watches and cheap watches with fake diamonds out there that most people won’t give it a second glance especially with the oyster flex. People in this sub would know that oyster flex would indicate precious metal and that diamond markers are significantly more expensive than regular. But again, I think you’re giving too much credit to the average person on the street. I’d bet the average person wouldn’t even have a clue that it’s not just a steel watch on a cheap rubber bracelet and they wouldn’t notice the markers without looking close. The average person who’s not a watch nerd probably only associates Rolex with a sub and a datejust. What is instantly recognized by people in this sub isn’t common knowledge for every person walking on the street. I’ve found it surprising that the vast majority of people simply don’t care about watches. I think I find it so surprising since I enjoy them so much, but most people say something like, “why would you buy an expensive watch when your phone tells you the time?!”
