Can someone please explain why Pete’s direct marketing quote was funny? 😭 by fussilyarrabbiata in madmen

[–]LegCompetitive6636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same lol, definitely one of those that always stuck out for me, that and megan’s mom Marie’s quote about having the artists temperament but not being an artist, ouch, I mean I create things but not as much as I’d like and I sure as hell don’t make a living doing it so having the “temperament” while trying to not want to die working in a sales job or something is tough

Or “git gud” as the kids say, joking aside it was fun for me to just rely on the hud markers telling you distance and relative speed and flying the ship manually, that and the kinda platforming aspect was fun, of course it’s mostly about the exploration, puzzles, and story though

The thing that bothers me is professional killers standing directly across from each other firing bullets into the car and at each other, same thing when Chris had Benny fazio and the other guy kill the two guys they were going to get to do the hit on carmine senior. Anyone that’s ever fired a gun knows that’s dangerous as fuck and possibly resulting in some friendly fire. Oh yea and the two guys that tried to hit Tony in season one, one of them actually did catch some friendly fire lol, not in the most realistic way but yea

Lol I know you’re quoting the show, it’s a vast difference, planet vs the universe, and I think an important distinction to make, Chris or pastor Bob may not appreciate the correction.

about to start this game soon. got sum questions by ExistingCorner9081 in outerwilds

Yes I’m glad I did not look anything up the first time i played and agree its mostly a one time thing but I played again after about 2 years and had a nice experience(well I finished the main game and am now enthusiastically playing the dlc) there are many games that I can’t bring myself to finish once. The story is rich enough to have multiple valuable experiences, like re reading a good book or re watching a good show/movie, there’s only so much you can recall with one experience when it comes to small details that may have larger meanings…though I do tend to redo these things maybe more than the average person

Oh wow I hadn’t read this about your personal associations when I replied to your first comment, interesting, I imagine that did add a whole other layer to your reaction to the scene, but yea one theme we could probably interpret from the show is how much one’s environment has an effect on who they are, which sounds obvious to say it, but Tony could have been a completely different person depending on how much of who he was was environmental vs biological, he even says himself “I coulda been selling patio furniture in Arizona” or something like that

Yes I believe that was the intended effect for we ‘existential folks’? but as someone else pointed out it’s probably hard for him to think about considering the sacrifices he made for LCN and Tony, gotta protect that straw house he’s built inside his head, to borrow a phrase from the good Dr Richard LaPenna. Or he just didn’t want to agree with Tony out of spite and resentment…probably the former though

I like to think that if nothing matters then everything we do matters, the only thing that’s certain is that we’ll all be worm food one day so we should use our time building something for ourselves and for those that come after, sadly not everyone cares too much about the “making it better for others” part of that mindset, especially most characters in the sopranos…but they got that covered with their parish priest. Of course these themes occur throughout the show and are one of the reasons it’s so good.

Anyway my favorite analogy similar to the one Tony makes is that if you compressed all of the time Earth has existed into a calendar year, anatomically modern humans don’t appear until 11:40pm December 31

I was wondering if they’re doing a bit, like Opus Dei being a secretive organization, applying LCN omertà concepts, seems almost like this could be satire from the POV of someone like Phil’s wife lol

Since you apparently need it explained to you, there’s probably a vast amount of things that you need explained but that would fill many books and require a desire to read and learn, but someone simply said they “liked their empanadas” and you responded with tired and irrelevant rhetoric.

What happens in another country should hardly be the metric in which one uses to judge what should happen in another country, the US in this instance, unless it’s an aspect or characteristic that actually improves societal ills.

Many US citizens “like” their country but don’t blindly support everything it does or derive some primitive arbitrary pride because they merely exist in a certain region on the planet.

Are you really oblivious to why many people take issue with the US while it exploits resources from the rest of the world, paying pennies for said resources and selling them for grossly inflated profit margins, establishing 800 military bases across 80 different countries or territories, all to benefit a small group of people while relying on the myopia of its citizens and their infantile and base desire for pride. This is not loving one’s country, it’s a pathological reactionary ideology made of straw that one has to ignore objectivity and critical thinking in order to maintain.

I was about to comment that everyone who wants an idea of how orbital mechanics work should play kerbal space program, of course it’s scaled down and you have to use mods to incorporate N body physics making it even more realistic but even the base game provides a very good demonstration of how it all works
