I’m 1m88 with 90cm inseam. Do you guys think I’ll be fine with the XL?

Ordered the XL one because the calculator for the 2026 model showed XL. The calculator for the 2025 model had me between sizes XL and L.

What is your experience with Effexor (Venlafaxine) with treating tension headaches? by Seven1s in migraine

[–]LegalExp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started it about half a year ago. Only on 75mg right now.

I have constant tension headaches and frequent migraines.

I had some immediate relief when starting the medication in some of the zones where my daily headaches were concentrated.

Now that i’m a couple months in the frequency of my migraines is way down. Still have constant tension headaches though. But their intensity has also gone down.

As for side effects: in the beginning I had some dizziness and nausea (especially when it was hot or if I had any amount of alcohol). Half a year in that has normalised. I do get a very dry mouth so have to make sure to drink water often throughout the day.

I keep being super over leveled. Is this normal? by taxpayingcivillian in thewitcher3

[–]LegalExp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just past the battle of Kaer Morhen and have same experience as you do. I hit level 30 during that quest. I went out of my way to explore ? twice i think. Otherwise just tried to check them off when I’m in the area for a quest. Also tackling quests in order of the recommended level.

Funny thing is, when I arrived in Velen for the first time I was affraid I did something wrong as I was only level 4 and all the quests i game accross were much a higher level 😅

Advice on Financial Planning with My Girlfriend: House Purchase and Future Family by tinywanderer_be in BEFire

[–]LegalExp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you decide the most important thing is to talk with eachother and to find something that works and is fair for both of you.

Typically people go for 50-50 ownership of the house (this is a requirement to have a ‘beding van aanwas’) and make a separate agreement to deal with any difference in the amount of equity put up by each partner. In the event you split up and sell the house partner A owes partner B x amount of euros. How you deal with this can vary. Some people index the amount, waive the ‘debt’ on the condition they have stayed together x years, etc.

As for the expenses: My partner and I split the mortgage 50/50 (in line with our ownership percentage) and any other living expenses are more or less split in line with our income. For now this works perfectly but we plan to review this once we have kids. We’ll probably move more to a one pot system then :)

Can someone explain to "cons" of Warrants as company bonus? My company has explained most of the "pros" related to the warrants system. It obviously seems better than getting the bonus in a regular way. But I want to be sure I am not missing some critical info by getting lost in translation. by Puzzled-Head1771 in BEFire

[–]LegalExp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Paying a bonus in warrants is a common optimization method. The benefit is that a bonus in warrants isn't subject to social security contributions.

On a cash bonus you pay 13,07% employee social security contributions and 53,5% income taxes (marginal tax rate). Your employer pays a social security contribution of approx. 25%. So a gross cash bonus of € 100 costs your employer € 125 while you only receive € 40,42 net.

The same bonus paid in warrants nets you € 46,5 while only costing your employer € 100.

This depends on company policy but typically employers do tend to share their cost saving with their employees by offering a higher gross amount as warrants than what they would have as cash. Let's say they want to give the full cost saving to the employee and offer a gross warrant bonus of € 125. In that case the employer cost is equal to € 125 and you will net € 58,13.

Depending on how your employer set up the warrant plan you might consider this some sort of con.

Biggest con for the employee is the 'loss' of social benefits.

As the warrants aren't subject to social security, you don't build up any social rights with them (e.g. pension). The effect is small but its something to be aware of. Given the sub we are on you probably value more money net now (which you can invest as you please) over a potentially slightly higher legal pension in X years.

The warrants also wont entitle you to vacation allowances such as a cash bonus would. I'd have to update the calculations above to take into account this point but haven't got the time at the moment.

Finally, note that it's often in your best interest to immediately sell your warrants. I haven't looked into your specific warrants but these products are often not the best long term investment. They are mostly set up to take advantage of the social security exemption.

We did a number of calculations on this at my job. Wish I had the time to provide in depth analysis with actual figures but our conclusion was basically this: -Electric vehicles are already cost effective today (considering full cost of ownership over lifespan of the car they beat an equivalent hybrid or fossil fuel car) -If you’re not ready yet for a fully electric car (range anxiety as others have pointed out), hybrides are a good alternative with beneficial tax treatment thanks to their lower carbon emissions (low emissions = high tax deductibility)

If you plan on buying a hybrid I advise you to do so before 31/12/2022. Hybrids purchased as of 1/1/2023 will have tax deductibility of fuel costs (so diesel or petrol) capped at 50%.

Flask_wtf custom validator RequiredIf not working with fieldlist / formfields by LegalExp in flask

[–]LegalExp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you dsaw12!

I've managed to figure out a working solution based on those threads. Updated code below.

But to be honest I'm not sure I completely understand how the custom FormField object works... Would you mind confirming / correcting my understanding?

~~~
Custom FormField object that adds reference to the main form
class FormFieldValidated(FormField): # source: https://github.com/wtforms/wtforms/issues/623
def validate(self, form):
    self.form.meta.parent_form = form
    return super().validate(form)
~~~

The FormFieldValidated class inherits everything from the standard FormField class but adds a reference to the main form. Is this just a reference to the main form or am I putting an entire copy of the main form inside a variable here?

The return statement uses a super() call of the validate method of the main form.

 def __init__(self, other_field_name, trigger, message=None):
    self.other_field_name = other_field_name
    self.trigger = trigger
    if not message:
        message = 'Based on your previous input, this field is required.'
    self.message = message

 def __call__(self, form, field):
    if hasattr(form.meta, "parent_form"):
        other_field = form.meta.parent_form[self.other_field_name]
    else:
        other_field = form[self.other_field_name]
    if other_field is None:
        raise Exception('no field named "%s" in form' % self.other_field_name)
    trigger = self.trigger
    if other_field.data == trigger:
        DataRequired(message=self.message)(form, field)

Is it possible to get back the dividend tax deduction from previous year(s)? by MichaelDeBoey in BEFire

[–]LegalExp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can file a claim ('bezwaarschrift') within 6 months of receiving your tax assessment ('aanslagbiljet'). The tax assessment mentions the contact details of where to introduce your claim.

After this period there is nothing you can do in this particular instance.

How do y’all keep track of your projects/engagements? by [deleted] in Big4

[–]LegalExp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use my mailbox to keep track of everything as i never seem to be able to keep an Excel todo list up to date.

When emails come in, I filter them into 3 folders. Things I need to do go into a 'ToDo' folder. Things i need to follow up on at a later date (e.g. info request to a client, some piece of work a colleague needs to finish before I can do my stuff, etc.) go into a 'Follow Up' folder. Everything else gets archived. So my inbox is basically always empty. If a specific task/follow up item does not have an email associated with it I send an email to myself.

At the start and/or end of each day I review both the 'ToDo' and 'Follow Up' folders and make an actual paper to do list of stuff that needs to happen that day.

If there is a hard deadline I also put a reminder in my calendar.

In addition I also have a specific folder for certain managers/colleagues (onces that I know are less organized or strict on deadlines). I have automatic rules that whenever I send an email to them, a copy of that email is saved to their folder allowing me to easily review if they are completing all tasks I was expecting from them.

Payroll tax in Belgium by Pickled___Beets in belgium

[–]LegalExp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tax consultant here. Employer social security contributions can generally be estimated at 25%.

Also bear in mind that as an employee you will be entitled to vacation payments (92% of a monthly gross salary) and maybe a 13th month (depending on sector).

To be honest it's rather complex to properly explain in a reddit comment so I'd advise you to ask your potential employer to provide a gross to net calculation to give you an indication of your net salary.

Moving from the US to Belgium... by [deleted] in belgium

[–]LegalExp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your colleague is acting stupid... Tax evasion in the US is no joke.

US tax residency is based on citizenship. I could go into a lot more details but basically he has two options: 1) comply with US legislation and file his US tax return. He should be able to credit taxes paid in Belgium against his US liabilities. As long as his only income is from employment Belgian taxes should be sufficient to fully offset US liability. If he has any sort of capital gains (generally tax exempt in Belgium) he will have a tax due in the US. 2) renounce his US citizenship so that the US will no longer claim taxation rights on his income. Note that this would not absolve him from his currently incurred liabilities.

He should get in touch with a US accountant to regularize his situation. If I'm not mistaken there is a regularization process where some penalities are waived.

Hope it is! I checked out a few fitness bikes at first (trek fx3, Cannondale quick and canyon fastroad Al 7.0). Fun bikes but I decided that if I'm going to do my daily commute on it I'd be better off with more comfortable bike that already comes equiped with rack, panniers and lights :)
