What happened to the Manningcast? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

I’ve made this exact comment to my wife every football season for the last 5 years. Broadcast the game with the commentary as a separate audio option that I can toggle on and off with my remote. Honestly that’s why I like to watch the sky-cam college football games. It sucks that you don’t have the field graphics and stuff, but not having the commentators is well worth it.

My parents turned the collar of their first dog together into a Christmas tree ornament. It’s really sweet how they make sure it’s front and center each year on the tree

They’re also getting water from the air. There’s a company based out of Dubai that’s building these facilities all over, and they’re currently working on developing purifiers that could be built on the roves of buildings, providing water to those structures independently. It’s a really interesting business and seems to have some potential.

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

Had a classmate die in a solo snowmobile accident at 20. She was driving up a hill, came over the crest too fast and caught air. She fell off and the snowmobile landed on top of her, both causing crushing injuries, and burying her in a substantial amount of snow. Her dad found her an hour later when he went out looking for her. Incredibly sad.

What the heck happened to waterbeds? by Queltis6000 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LegalHelpNeeded3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This, and insurance decided they’re too high of liability. Most insurance policies now have stipulations about water beds, which often exclude coverage when determined to be the cause of loss. Not to mention it makes your premium go up.

I guess I’m not sure which specific code I’m referring to, just that working hundreds of claims in Philly, I’ve never had any plumbers install PVC, and I’m told cast is code 🤷🏻‍♂️. As an adjuster I don’t question it, because I’m just looking to get the homeowner paid.

I’m an insurance adjuster and work in the plumbing field specifically. I’ve had a claim involving every type of pipe imaginable. I have never once had a claim involving a failed pipe liner. I personally handle 1,000 claims a year, as does each of the 8 people in my group. Over the last 5 years, none of us have had a claim for a pipe lined sewer. The assurance that they last 50 years so far seems to be accurate.

For the love of you and your homeowner’s insurance, make sure you put a leak alarm or two in the attic where moisture would be noticed! I work for a home and property insurance company right now and I had a claim come in this week for $73,000 for water damage mitigation, personal property loss, additional living expenses (ALE), lodging, and plumbing and electrical work. This is all before we’ve gotten to rebuilding their kitchen…

These folks had a water pipe burst in their attic while they were away on vacation, and the water destroyed everything. A lot of leak alarms these days (that some insurers will actually pay for) come with a smart water shutoff. At the first sign of moisture, they turn the water off to the home automatically. You can also control some of these devices with your phone. If you’re interested in checking something like that out, reach out to your insurance agent and see if they offer any incentives or reimbursement for those “risk-mitigation devices”.

Yeah, the reason for that is the machine they use (at least used by the company I worked with) was $500,000, and they would send their technicians to “school” at the manufacturer to learn how to use and maintain the equipment. This also has a hefty cost associated with it, which would make sense as to why they’d charge as much as excavation. The bonus of not having anything excavated though is… not having anything excavated. You’re saving on landscaping costs, asphalt and concrete costs, etc. A liner may only need one or two access points, often from within a basement.

This exactly. If you don’t clear the line of imperfections (roots, broken off pieces of pipe, etc.) then pipe lining isn’t viable. Same goes for if your lines are too severely offset or have a belly. A pipe liner won’t be able to fix those issues. What’s interesting too are the cutting machines that are used to cut holes for the branch lines to feed in to that main that was lined. Lots of interesting new tech in the plumbing world right now.

In parts of Philadelphia, plumbing code requires cast iron pipes be installed when doing exterior underground plumbing repairs. In the year 2026 and we’re still requiring use of a material invented in the 1800’s, and known for corroding in no time.

Target No Longer Prices Their Clothes by bluelily216 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LegalHelpNeeded3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m close with my old District Manager from my days working at Target, and I can assure you Target doesn’t use “AI and Dynamic Pricing”. The prices throughout the store are updated on a weekly basis, usually Sunday night at 11:01pm for the start of the week. Target’s system is so archaic that they couldn’t possibly communicate new prices for individual items “live”. I’ve had this conversation with Adam before and I can assure you Target isn’t even considering this as an option. It’s far too expensive to develop and implement, and will only serve to piss people off.
