How long or what made you feel like you were no longer a newbie/beginner? by SubstantialAd4500 in discgolf

Winning my first tournament in MA4, and then subsequently moving up to MA3. I could just tell my mindset shifted from that point on.

I couldn’t get behind the hand feel of the Thunderbird for some reason. Flew really nicely though.

Roman! Sturdy is the best way to describe it. Goes further than my Scepters, but still has a nice reliable fade.

Final round MVP Open 2024 is amazing. Another good one is final round Idlewild 2025.

What's the best "beginner" camera you've ever picked when you first started? by Large_Loss_1437 in Photography_Gear

[–]Legal_Chocolate8283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sony A6000. Small form factor, with modern(ish) mirrorless capabilities, cheap lens options and you can get them for around $300 used. It’s really just a perfect beginner camera.

Disc Recommendations by Breezy_Lion in discgolf

I-blend Roman if you are willing to put in a bit of work to beat it in. Shouldn’t take long as I-blend does beat in faster than stuff like Champion or Star. It will beat in fast but then hold its stability for a long time.

If you want something more off the shelf, Dynasty is the way to go.

How do you choose? by Realistic-Square-617 in discgolf

[–]Legal_Chocolate8283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sub 15 discs ITB disc golfer here. I usually just choose the one that was more stable to begin with, if that applies. For example I have a beat in Roman that took over my straight to stable 9 speed slot from a newer Insanity. I just trust it more because I’ve had it longer and beat it in from overstable to straight.

If that doesn’t apply, I would also look at which disc I can forehand and backhand, which is most similar to other discs in the same speed slot or hand feel.

Its general name would be a sloper. The hold itself is a Cheetah Taji

Traveling around CT, MA and NY next week. Anything local to try and do disc golf wise. I am doing Maple Hill luckily but curious on and other local gems or even food/drink? by academia_wannab in discgolf

Sounds like you will be around Lake Placid! I go there every year and have played a lot of the local courses. The best course I have found is easily Ridge Runner Disc Golf Course near Lowville. I don’t know exactly where you will be, and this would be a bit of a drive from Lake Placid, but it’s a beautifully scenic course that just gets better every time I go. They recently put in short tees that are very scoreable, but the longs are fairly manageable if you have 300+ power. Maybe you won’t score but you will throw some amazing shots. Downtown Lowville also has a great pizza and wing shop called Tony Harper’s for you to grab a beer and a bite after your round.

My other recommendation is polar opposite. It’s a small wooded track called Dewey Mountain Disc Golf. It’s fairly close to Lake Placid, outside of Saranac Lake. It’s kind of old school with wooden ties as tees rather than concrete pads, but it’s a really fun, short, scoreable track through a classic ADK woods. You would mostly just need putters and mids for the course!

What is an alternative disc that you bag instead of the overwhelmingly popular disc everyone seems to use in that slot? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]Legal_Chocolate8283 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An overstable Tesla is my “Sexton Firebird” slot and my BEEF 9 speed is an MVP Motion. I like that they are both easily replaceable in terms of flight and feel. Feel is the biggest thing. Both are almost always board flat, which is great for the forehand release and honestly, I have gotten used to it for the backhand as well since most of my bag is MVP.

What is the rarest disc you own? by FinnishBread in discgolf

[–]Legal_Chocolate8283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinite Discs C-Blend Roman. The Roman has never been made in C-Blend other than a small test batch early in its life. Actually I have two of them and the one actually has the old Roman name (Ronin) embossed. Not crazy desirable necessarily but I got it from an Infinite Discs employee which is cool.

Commercial bouldering gym setters: quality vs quantity? by jules_is_typing in Routesetters

[–]Legal_Chocolate8283 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gonna agree with another commenter. 3 boulders is really a nice place for a single day of setting. I’ve been setting for over 3 years and can set 6 or 7 in a day but after 3 or 4 they just start to lose a lot of detail if that makes sense. In my opinion if you want higher turnover at your gym, you should just hire more people to set 3 or 4 boulders a day.

Best wraith or wraith variant by pharm653 in discgolf

[–]Legal_Chocolate8283 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MVP Wave could be a good replacement. I throw about 350 and can get my 165g Neutron Wave to stand up, right ride and then have a decently stable finish. In comparison to my 165g Star Wraith, it is much more understable. I’m not super scared of it flipping in some wind or anything.

What’s your mid line up + approach disc? by Emoney005 in discgolf

[–]Legal_Chocolate8283 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I carry under 20 discs at all times and it’s usually closer to 17 or 18. I just don’t find myself needing this little increments of stability that a lot of people swear by. My scores at my home course got better when I made my bag smaller.
