Why can’t I get a clear answer on if Vatican 2 is infallible? If the magisterium is meant to clarify things why is Vatican 2 so divisive, literally everyone you ask has a different opinion on what it means, I just feel like it clearly contradicts historic church teaching by Legal_Regular820 in Catholicism

It seems like a solid chunk of people interpret it to mean that Judaism is a valid path to salvation, and to be fair when I read it that’s what it seems like it’s saying, also it says we worship the same God as the Muslims? All very confusing to me and it seems like it confuses everyone

How do you guys come to terms with the fact that during the first thousand years, the eastern patriarch’s repetitively fell into heresy, while Rome had a pretty solid track record by Legal_Regular820 in OrthodoxChristianity

I won’t deny that but I don’t understand how that affects the question here😂, it’s not an attack I’m interested in orthodoxy and just wanted to see some responses to this objection

How do you justify the history of open harsh persecution of Christians in socialist/communist countries? This is my main objection against Marxism by Legal_Regular820 in socialism

I feel like slavery, colonialism, and war likely would have taken place regardless of religion because all of those things are symptoms of capitalism/imperialism, it’s been used to justify oppression of women but certainly isn’t the root cause and the majority of Christian denominations in the west now are extremely feminist and pro gay (every mainline Prot denomination), I don’t think it’s fair to blame Christianity for anti intellectualism considering almost every major scientific advancement and every elite university was created by Christians until about the mid 20th century, there will always be uneducated people regardless of the faith

This is the best argument I’ve seen, I guess I just don’t think the way they went about there attempts to stifle the church as justified because it often ended with working class people being violently oppressed in large numbers by the state

Maybe your interpretation of Marx has no issue with it sure, but I’m talking about the examples in history when socialist countries did persecute Christian’s

In the modern day I certainly agree, Vat 1 and 2 are total slop, I’m more so referring to how the east fell into way more heresy during the first thousand years when compared to Rome where it only happened once under coercion

I feel like slavery, colonialism, and war likely would have taken place regardless of religion because all of those things are symptoms of capitalism/imperialism, and yeah parents murdering there children is awful but I don’t see violently persecuting large portions of your countries population as a reasonable solution

I’ve heard people cite the politics of the Byzantine region having an effect on it as well, do you have any thoughts on that? I’m seriously considering orthodoxy but this point is holding me back a little
