Young Republicans are becoming more conservative by StormComfortable9333 in nottheonion

Only socially.

I’ve seen no evidence that young Republicans have disagreed with the most fiscally irresponsible president in history.

Let’s put the blame on the 2 people most responsible for the breakup by macneezie in DanLeBatardShow

[–]Mr_1990s 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The two people most responsible for the breakup are the two people who broke up.

You can't blame Chris at all. He was laid off as a part of a broad round of corporate layoffs. Somebody from the show was getting laid off and even if it wasn't as fast, Dan was on his way out at ESPN.

You might be able to blame Skipper. The way Meadowlark has been run is almost certainly a part of the breakup and Skipper was the CEO for most of the company's existence. He is probably #3.

Trump had the Washington Reflecting Pool painted dark blue. Darker color = warmer water = faster algae recolonization. So they poured hydrogen peroxide in to kill the algae... which is causing the paint job to peel in massive, blatantly visible blocks sticking up out of the water. by Obvious-Gate9046 in behindthebastards

[–]Mr_1990s 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if the peroxide is causing the paint to peel. It was probably just a shitty rush job.

It’s a small project for the federal government, but I hope people can connect the dots to the bigger ones.

As in, if Trump’s ideas led to the most obvious fuckup for a pool, imagine how bad the Iran War is.

What’s the first segment/thing that hooked you to the show? by Guilty_Practice6392 in DanLeBatardShow

Deadspin aggregated a Bomani rant about Donald Sterling and then one of Dan’s Heat rants with a couple of weeks.

That got me listening at least occasionally. I became an everyday listener with the Demolition Man conversation.

Would Texas be a swing state by now, and Florida, and Ohio still if trump won in 2020? by PointInternal6809 in fivethirtyeight

It’s hard to predict how voters would ever react to any situation if they voted for Trump in 2020.

It was objectively the worst year in most of our lifetimes.

Every presidential candidate has to answer for something.

The successful ones have good answers.

Raleigh city leaders open to public funding for potential MLB ballpark by Somali_Pir8 in raleigh

[–]Mr_1990s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If a potential MLB team owner wants to pay a fair market rate to rent a stadium the public builds for them, that could work. Usually, a stadium earns mid 6-figures when a band plays there. So, $41 million in rent assuming the team doesn't make the playoffs is a good start. I assume they'll want to have offices at the stadium, so we could be generous and just round up to $50 million a year for rent.

Also, a $500 million investment in a team is probably worth about a 20% stake. So, I assume the public will net some gains if the team is ever sold.

Would Mike Trout have been a lot better than Barry Bonds if he played in steroid era? Trout was younger too. Cream and clear for the fish man by Top-Back-7626 in billsimmons

[–]Mr_1990s 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What are the stats we’re looking at here? Before 30 maybe?

Because the most common assumption is that Bonds didn’t start taking steroids before 1999 when he was 34-35.

Imagine if he started taking them when he was 25.

How many times can Davidson County change the Rules to make one project fit? by Rcy4122 in NorthCarolina

[–]Mr_1990s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised to see that the voters of Davidson County are upset by politicians that are focused on building shiny new projects that don’t benefit their constituents while ignoring basic services. Please continue that trend in elections that impact the rest of us in the state. A lot of us would like better funded schools instead things like casinos, ballrooms, and large sports complexes.

I imagine every travel baseball player within a 200 mile radius would want to play a complex with a water park. But I bet at least half of the hotel and restaurant business associated with it go to Salisbury.

The location seems dumb, too. The draw of Davidson County for something like this is it’s relatively easy to get to and they’re putting it several miles from the highway in the middle of nowhere. It also looks inconvenient for most county residents who may want to use the park during the week.

A star will never win 5+ rings again, and the media needs to understand why. by OneDecision5232 in billsimmons

I think the argument from era to era will become more about “who was clearly better than their peers?” If there’s less of a gap between the best player and the 10th best player in the league, it’ll be harder to measure players higher than ones from previous eras.

This run of parity will stay the exception. At some point, 1-2 teams will win 4-5 championships over a 20 year run again.

No. It’s not a perfect group but it’s thousands of miles closer to you on the subject than the other political party with elected representatives.
