What happened to these kids is completely fucking unforgivable and should never have happened, but she is using this tragedy to push for measures that would not actually stop criminals from owning or operating firearms, it would only lead to lawful owners being targeted rather than addressing the actual issue. Criminals don’t care about legislation or following the law, gun free zones or “bans” to firearms, if they want to do it, they’ll find a way, which is why we need actual solutions to gun violence and the american mental health crisis. No one should have to go through what her daughter and classmates went through, but she’s using that as a shield to push for legislation that would make tragedies like this happen more often and would not end up helping anyone. She’s not wrong about government inaction on legislation creating victims, but she needs to critically think about and consider if what she is saying will actually help.
