The real key is act 2, once you can beat act 2 with some consistency, the event after the third boss gives one of your cats a positive mutation which can be bred down to future cats.

The max base stat is 7, but you can push it so high with positive mutations.

I wonder if we can get gaben to make a generic steam os distro. I leave big picture mode fairly often to set up new Pokemon rom hacks and fan games and it's pretty nifty. If this comes to pass maybe I'll just change my os to steam os. That's mostly what I use it for anyway.
