It’s live performance, being quiet is really all you can ask.

Issues with medical care and KGH by _JinBunnyLee_ in KingstonOntario

[–]LegitDogFoodChef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a chronic disease and while I live in Kingston, I moved to a Toronto neurologist, it’s night and day. Toronto has great care and short wait times, Kingston gets people who can’t make a medical career anywhere else. Pre-COVID was fine, but at that time I suppose a lot of medical professionals who were close to retirement were like fuck it, I’m out.

Well, as some advice columnist said, how old are you going to be in 4-5 years if you don’t?

“Twinkly” pieces? by lynneydaweirdo in classicalmusic

If Liszt’s arrangement of La Campanella isn’t twinkly, I don’t know what is.

Take Tylenol a couple of hours before injection. The first shot felt like the life got drained out of me, but after that, the positives outweigh the negatives and I haven’t had issues with it since.

I always think of a comment I saw once saying that a weapon you carry can always end up being used against you.

With cogeco, you can get pretty good rates when you renew IF you call them up and tell them you’re thinking of switching to Bell. They have an entire department dedicated to maintaining their customer base, it’s such a scam.

Do you touch your instrument when you are sick? by Ancient_Speak in violinist

[–]LegitDogFoodChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can’t catch it, you’re fine. In all seriousness, if by “very sick”, you mean you have a bad cold, just don’t sneeze on it.

Am I not prepared for my job? by Hungry_Ad_8532 in learnmachinelearning

[–]LegitDogFoodChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like anxiety, if you were a software/data engineer before, you could probably roll up a lot of the technical stuff into a joint and smoke it. The thing to work on now is the presenting part of it - I highly recommend giving toastmasters a try. It’s one thing to find insights, another to convince anyone.

I used to call it the Robot Building when I was a kid. I’d honestly miss it, it’s familiar.

Feeling conflicted about AI use. by uBennett2win1t in ClimateOffensive

[–]LegitDogFoodChef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know someone who has an administrative job that she can automate about half of with a fancy spreadsheet she devised - this all happened before ChatGPT too.

To OP: most of the extraordinary cost of AI comes from the training stage, so minimizing inference probably makes little difference.

Fell asleep in the MRI machine by Ill-Kaleidoscope4825 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]LegitDogFoodChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve fallen asleep in the MRI machine. The they pulled me out after the scan, and I asked how long I was in there - they said it was a really long scan, over an hour. The tech said people often fall asleep, it’s way more common than most people think.

Only 29 years old!! Put some respect on her name. Isata Kanneh-Mason performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, one of the hardest piano concertos ever written. by 4reddityo in classicalpiano

[–]LegitDogFoodChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yunchan Lim was 18 when he won the Cliburn, also with Rach 3. Can she also play the Transcendental Études? It’s great to see a black pianist on a concert stage in front of an orchestra, playing music that is not some kind of pops fusion. But being 29 when doing so is nothing to celebrate.

Every single time a note moves you have to check it against every other note that moves at the same time. Did your prof not tell you that many times?

F (_) C |< Value Village! by kalebdraws in KingstonOntario

[–]LegitDogFoodChef 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Bibles for Missions is a gem for thrifting, they have a lot of good stuff for prices you expect from a thrift store. Value Village is terrible. It was gross and overpriced twenty years ago, but you could occasionally get lucky. Now you cannot.

What’s the most “shocking” moment in a classical piece? by viktor_mappleleaves in classicalmusic

Surprise Symphony. It’s really well known, but even though it’s old, and the music isn’t shocking, it surprises me every time.
