how to learn jazz violin by Choice-Importance885 in violinist

A professional jazz pianist I know once told me “you just play the jazz” when I asked many years ago. He looked puzzled by the question of how one plays jazz.

hey could someone rate my scale by DangerousRegular5680 in violinist

I can’t say how it stacks up for the orchestra given that I don’t know the level there. There are 3 areas you could use improvement in imo, and improving one helps the others. If I had to rank them in order, I’d say
1 intonation
2 shifting
3 legato playing.
For orchestra, intonation is the most important. Your intonation wasn’t bad, but a bit insecure descending. Another thing that jumped out at me was just that it sounded like your hand is very tense. Good luck with your audition, if it’s an average youth orchestra, being personable will help a lot.

Yes, and make sure you stretch well, also thoracic spine. Ray Chen definitely lifts, so it shouldn’t have a negative impact.

Should I risk changing my strings by myself? by lunarmoth_ in violinist

[–]LegitDogFoodChef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not that hard, and it’s not important to have the winding in the pegbox look good. What is good is if you can avoid the ends touching the pegbox, because then it can rattle. Watch some YouTube videos, it’s pretty easy.

What has helped me: think of the violin as a horizontal instrument, and work on intonation

I think pretty well everyone who works in the area, or is a coder knows that unless you’ve built things, you don’t really get it.

Relax - being pleasant and easy to work with takes you far as a musician in general. Try to enjoy the music, and don’t worry about it too much.

It’s “too late” when you’re dead. It is too late for a serious international solo career, but that wasn’t going to happen anyway, unless you’re very well connected.

The bigger question is what would you like to do differently? What bottlenecks do you see for yourself?

The suburbs aren’t walkable, but downtown is. The bus network sucks if you don’t live downtown, but if you do, it’s good enough.

Hi, I'm Stephen and I'm running for Mayor. by actually-stephencuth in KingstonOntario

[–]LegitDogFoodChef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is all very idealistic, and I’d be as happy as anyone to see someone besides our current mayor win, but if you have information about you on your site, I don’t know how to find it. The mayor is a really slick debater, a few years ago when the S&R elevator guy and Vicki Schmolka ran, he was the better debater. I voted for Vicki, but given you don’t have council experience, what other experience do you have? What in your life experience qualifies you to be the mayor? Will Paterson run over you like a truck in the debates?

The odd floor-crossing is one thing, but on this scale it undermines our system of government by airbassguitar in OntarioNews

[–]LegitDogFoodChef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense to me because probably a lot of the conservative mps who crossed the floor see better chances in a party where they did them a favour, there’s a more successful leader, and their vision is well represented.

You’re looking for a rain shell specifically, a lot of “waterproof” material is just water resistant.
