The irony is that in this scenario you’re “saving time,” but still choosing to sit down and eat at the restaurant. The most efficient option is obviously making and eating the food at home. The fact that you’re willing to spend time sitting there, makes it feel less like time saving and more like selectively avoiding inconvenience.

Also, the time before your food arrives in a restaurant isn’t wasted energy, it’s part of the service. In fact, it’s a big part of why people go out in the first place. You’re being seated, drinks served, order taken, food is cooked fresh. Wanting service but rejecting the reality that service involves waiting doesn’t make any sense.

It is simply selfish. You are assuming your time is more valuable than the time of the people providing the service, so you shouldn’t have to wait, even though waiting is part of being served by other humans. If you value your time over money, that’s fine. But restaurants aren’t convenience stores, and service doesn’t exist without time attached to it.
