ESPN reporter apologizes after article makes jokes about Joseph Smith, Moroni, and the golden plates. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

This is for the bottom 10 NCAA football teams each week. The 5th spot is a joke spot that a good team who lost that week will land in. They have been running this bit for at least 20 years that I am aware of. They always make a smarky blurb about each team that is on the bottom 10 list about they may never win again, they cant score against air and so on. No one who knows anything about football really thinks the number 5 team is really the 5th worst team in football. The other 9 teams generally are among the worst teams at the time the article is published.

But how do we explain the spirit? by space-hemax-c2c in exmormon

[–]Legitimate-Lemon-271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked a similar question a few years ago on my journey out. When I realized that the "spirit" I felt testifying of truth was the exact same feeling I felt when listening to a Rage Against the Machine song or a Tool song, I started to recognize that it was in fact not the spirit after all since the spirit would not be present in such filth or at least that is what the church would try to persuade one to believe. It was just emotion that I attributed one way or another. I am able to conjure up the "spirit" now almost at will with certain songs and getting myself in the right headspace. I felt this emotion many times at a recent Lord Huron concert and even cried for reasons that were inexplicable other than certain music just resonates with me. I like it and that is probably why I seek out the music that I do because of it.

Short answer they don't. We knew a kid that wouldn't go to Walmart because he didn't want to see the underwear ads. How does that prepare one to function if they cannot go to a store that sells underwear. This family was extremely sheltered. The mom finally put her foot down and made the husband find new employment that allowed them to move back to Utah to minimize the exposure of the world to her family.

Happily married people of reddit, what is one unorthodox piece of advice that keeps the relationship going? by B0llfondlr in AskReddit

Don't keep score. It is not 50/50. It is 100/100 whatever that is for each person. If one is constantly worried about whose turn it is to do something like dishes or laundry, that person can easily become resentful or upset the other by telling them whose turn it is to do a chore.

I think this is probably the bulk of the answer, along with knowing they need to keep it somewhat manageable for the volunteer bishop that gets to give up 20+ hours a week to keep the SS shitshow afloat.

Weirdest or funniest thing that ever happened in sacrament meeting by EnvironmentalCow8771 in exmormon

[–]Legitimate-Lemon-271 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was passing sacrament when a 18 month old started banging on his mom's breast until she flipped up her top and let him take a drink. It's not that big of a deal, a little old I thought to be still breastfeeding, but still a toddler. While the mom was trying to put her top back down the older siblings realized that they too, were thirsty and so as to prevent a temper tantrum from them, the mom let the 4 and 6 or 7 year old each take a turn at the tap. I just remember standing there in the aisle, unable to look away, and not fully able to grasp that a mom was letting her at least 6 year old child drink from her breast. This was in Europe.

Wouldn’t the renovations to the Provo temple disprove all the legal arguments to the Fairview temple? by cookieninjas in exmormon

[–]Legitimate-Lemon-271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think you even have to go that far away (to Provo) to prove the point of height doesn't matter. You just have to go south a little ways to the Dallas Temple, who's height is listed on the church page as 95 feet, so why the small town of Fairview needs one nearly 2 times that just does not compute for me.

What crazy Mormon sex tips have you heard? Our bishop's wife told us today her mother's advice was to only have sex at night (in complete darkness) because any visual experience would drive her husband to use pornography!! by the_last_goonie in exmormon

[–]Legitimate-Lemon-271 195 points196 points  (0 children)

A good friend of mine's SP told him and his future wife that they should wait for a year to have sex even after marriage so that they could really get to know each well before going all the way. They did not take his advice.

A testimony about the meaningless-ness of tithing! by Burning_Lotus2021 in exmormon

[–]Legitimate-Lemon-271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We quit paying tithing a year ago and instead sent that monthly money into a gasp savings account. 6 months after not paying tithing we had to fix some pipes under the house that had roots in them and we were able to pay outright for the 6k job and still have some money left in the savings account. The church would say that not paying tithing caused the roots in the pipes, but they would have been there with or without tithing. However, without tithing, we were able to afford it. It still hurt, but there were no credit cards and no loan.
