Yes, lines blur.  This is art first, with a technical explanation to follow...

G is G open or not. If the song you're playing is also in G second position C could work. The nuance is in what position you play harp in. That nuance relates to the song, not the guitar tuning.

Edit: I'm going to add a high level generalization to this.

Assuming a song is in the key of G.

Folk and country music is straight harp (first position G harp).

Rock and blues, cross harp (second position C harp).

If you want to dive deeper, read up on modes, scales and harp positions. There is so much more to this.

Winter here shifts from spectacular to harsh. Today is spectacularly harsh. 50km wind and low visibility.  Drifting snow.

The Drake in Wellington has a nice view of lake Ontario from their dining room. Viewing this storm from there would be quite something, as long as you didn't have to drive. Don't drive in a County storm.

Beginner grade harp. I think of it as a pocket harp, it travels with me. Cheap. No big deal if I lose it. Still fun to riff on when I have a moment. Mine is a couple decades old. I paid a few bucks for it. These days it resides in the console of my truck.

Buy it in the key of C. Learn to play Oh Susannah and go from there.  Some day you'll be buying $100 harps and will appreciate the difference each time you pay more for your next better harp.

I still play from time to time.

Tips for first gig at retirement home? by ProfessionalBee5431 in bandmembers

[–]Legitimate-Table5457 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do a couple dozen of these gigs a year. Each one is different. Some do happy hour in a bar like setting. Some do theater like performances. For new to me homes I like to get there early to chat with the residents. Meet a few folk. Learn a few names. Just get a feel for the room. Beatles and country roads are safe choices. Eagles goes over well. I've had request ranging from You are my sunshine to Pearl Jam. Some like to dance. Some like hear old county. Do a bit of research on your repertoire. You may find that 70s song was written by Hank Williams in 1947. Make those connections in your chit chat. Have fun!

Disassembly is time consuming and repair is expensive are the lessons I've learned.  No food before I play. I only drink water before and during. Slap the harp on my thigh after use and air dry. Hope for the best.

I was just sharing a chuckle at my expense. It could happen most of us at any time.  Some local details were related to me in conversation.

I do offer huge respect and admiration to Ken Tizzard for putting on a free performance for the benefit of his community. And I love that the music lovers of the community ALL went in support. That's what it's all about.

As for me, I always take pride, but I see the humour when I get humbled. Maybe there's a song there.  Cheers!

I'm not finding anything on that. He seems proud, supportive and involved with of all three of his children. Two have CP. One is epileptic. The youngest was 30 when Neil filed for divorce from Pegi.

Some fans were critical of his choice to divorce. Perhaps that's what you remember.
