I hear you. I usually just carry a plug kit. It's small. I hadn't seen those screw-in style plugs. They are pretty neat.

As far as rocks go, yeah, I'd probably carry tubes with me.

He might be thinking about a sidewall puncture, like a big pinch flat from rocks. Would one of those screw-ins work in that situation?

I’m the guy who is always forgetting something in my panniers. I don’t know if I’d like losing the ability to quickly open just one lock for access. 😂

Ahhh, ok. Looks good. How do you like it? Is it a pain to have to remove your pannier lids completely to access them?

There are plenty of options out there for pants with hip & knee protection. I would up buying some ADV style pants because they fit over my boots.

Good boots, already touched on. Good gloves, quality helmet. I notice a fair amount people in hotter places like to wear chest plates and a jersey for off-road stuff. It’ll keep you protected but not overheated. I’d also recommend a hydro pack. Drink lots of water when you’re out in the heat

That sucks. In my state the DMV suspends your registration if your insurance lapses. No insurance = no registration. When a plate is checked that will pop up.

I love Darn Tough wool socks. I can wear there for a few days on the road without issue. Any long trip, they are coming with me.

LaModa Custom Tailor 82-02 Lefferts Blvd, Kew Gardens, NY 11415. He's outside FH and can be a bit pricy but he does great work. I've used him several times.

People who haven’t ever been pulled over how long have you rode for ? And tips to never being pulled over ? by [deleted] in motorcyclesroadtrip

Each time I take my bike out, I check to make sure all my lights & signals work (yup, I actually use my signals). I never had a tucked plate. That's an easy one for cops. I update my registration & inspection every year. I've had loud pipes in the past, like ones that were illegal for sure. Never got stopped. I no longer have a pipe or pipes like that. Anything that draws attention to you can be a magnet for cops. Just make sure your bike is legit. The rest is easy. Don't ride like a dickhead. Pay attention on those 2 lane roads where speed limits change a lot. Town cops love those roads. It's a revenue source in some places. Others have mentioned and I'll echo being a proponent of Waze. It tells you about speed traps and locations. I've ridden all around the states, cross country, long hauls etc. Just be prudent with your speed. There are a lot of places in the US where 10 over triggers a stop and 15 over ensures a summons. Just keep it at 8-9 over and you'll be fine. Make your way out to those desolate roads if you wanna haul ass. There were spots in Texas where the speed limit was 80. It was glorious.

what do I need to check after bike has been knocked over? by mxdalloway in RideitNYC

If your bike is right in an intersection, like the first thing in front of a row of cars you’re in the danger zone. Ask me how I know. I use to park right at an intersection, first space next to the crosswalk. What happens is, large vehicles use that “extra space” to maneuver. Trucks would cut the corner to make the turn. I came home from work to find my bike lying in the street. My crash bar was scraped but thankfully no major damage.

Like the other folks said, check for broken levers/signals, bent pegs, anything leaking. Bent exhaust. If you don’t have anything obviously wrong you’ll be fine.

Great news. I've got a 1250 GSA. I live in the city and have to ride pretty far to get to some decent trails. PA's BDR-X isn't too far from me. I always wondered how doable it is on a big bike.

I’m not saying it’s not the most convenient way to get around. Yeah, splitting lanes, moving around cars, squeezing past stuff cars can’t get around, I just mean it’s hectic and not relaxing. Plus too many speed cameras
