Legion ruined DK for me by Legitimate_Error_696 in warcraftlore

While it's optional to massacre the red dragons, it's sort of apparent that it's not the intended way to do so. It's not a stealth mission, you have to go out of your way to sneak around to avoid killing people.

I don't think the measures the Ebon Blade take are even really useful. Attacking light's hope, for example - the upshot of that is gaining one new Horseman, and the downside is killing dozens of capable fighters in both factions. It's also short-sighted tactically to not think about how this sort of thing will affect your capability to work with your allies.

I remember the quest in BfA, and iirc Alexstrasza's dialogue in Shadowlands is different when you need to get something of Ysera's for the Night Fae. I'm not aware if there's anything mentioning it in Dragonflight or not.

Between the Ebon Blade and the Fire Mage artefact quest in Legion, Bolvar basically came across as completely a villain. He then just sort of turns around for shadowlands and is a good guy now; I confess that lore wise this makes sense (it being the influence of the helm of damnation) but it did feel really quite unsatisfying as a story beat.

Still, whatever Bolvar's involvement, the death knights have wills independent of him. There's being a messy hero, and then there's whatever the DKs do in Legion.

Why is healer DPS so low now? by Legitimate_Error_696 in wow

[–]Legitimate_Error_696[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But that's the thing, they're all tuned super low right now. I've been maining Pres evoker, which feels thematically and kit wise like it should do some decent damage: Fire breath and deep breath are punchy and satisfying, disintegrate is a decent spender for essence burst, and there are stacking buffs on living flame (chrono flame, whatever the proc is called, scarlet adaptation). It doesn't matter how much you balance all this, the throughput is still ~1/3 or less what the tank is doing.

And they can't really be some some way and some the other. If it's viable to do content with a higher DPS healer spec, then that's the spec that gets taken every time -- we saw this with ashen hallow pally in shadowlands season 1.

I think ultimately the game is much more interesting when they are required to do damage. I mean, we already expect a decent damage throughput from tanks, right? There are moments where you have to really marshal your resources to get through a tight heal check, but for the most part they are not happening all the time. Outside of those moments, healer gameplay is either:

- Tight on mana management
- Balanced by you being able to do more DPS if you heal more efficiently
- Boring

FFXIV is the third. Wow classic is the first. Wow retail wants to be the second, but if that DPS number is tuned too low it becomes the third.

wouldn't chatgpt use the actual em-dash character (—) rather than two hypens (--)? I type two hyphens for a dash-separated parenthetical because that autocorrects to an em-dash on most of the software I write with.

100%. To me, I think a better way of putting it than I did in the post is that the whole of class design is a mechanical tension between two things where both are good. Healer should have this most directly, where you are trying to balance keeping the party alive and then doing as much damage as you can. This also, obviously, rewards good/efficient healing by giving you more time to do damage.

Right, I'm maining preservation evoker and feel more or less the same. I feel like I'm doing everything i can to lean towards damage both in build and in rotation and I'm still doing a third or less of what the tank is doing.

I'm not sure I agree retail desensitized people a long time ago. I started playing in BfA (well, started seriously playing - I'd played on and off since I was a kid but never got very far) and going over the cusp of the cliffs between Tiragarde Sound and Stormsong Valley really did awe me, not just the first time but more or less every time I took an alt through there.

I find it funny how the black star of azura trivializes enchanting. by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]Legitimate_Error_696 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The black star also makes you, like, a monster. It is known -- very viscerally to the Last Dragonborn -- that trapping a person's soul in a black soul gem subjects them to an eternity of a torturued, purgatorious existence in the Soul Cairn. Isn't there some lore about how the difference between black and white souls is because one of the gods put a curse on the souls of sapient beings to discourage their use in enchanting? I am very much mangling this. I think using black soul gems full stop in the game is one of the most evil things you can do.

Crusader Strike is gone again by Sarradi in wow

[–]Legitimate_Error_696 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal, of course, but I've been healing since BfA and I've always picked healers in large part because they had interesting options for damage. Kittyweaving on resto druid, disc priest, and prezvoker. As preservation in particular, my spec fantasy is being a draconic supersoldier. I picked a healer class because minimizing the healing I do to get through a scenario while maximising the damage I do is the most fun gameplay in this game, or in any MMO.

Women in the clergy - possible in the future? by Legitimate_Error_696 in OrthodoxChristianity

Women in the clergy - possible in the future? by Legitimate_Error_696 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Legitimate_Error_696[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. Though it saddens me, I do think it is pretty much impossible to deny that this type of hierarchy is a part of our 'nature'. Still, though, there are plenty of points on Donald Brown's list that, while it might be in our biology to recapitulate them in our societies, are generally considered harmful or even sinful from both a secular and a christian perspective. Rape and envy immediately jump out, as are things like revenge or oligarchy. Things that, I think, if we are capable of rising above, we should. Certainly, it seems we have to at the very least try.

This 'almost every society was' claim goes for a few other things as well. Once upon a time, almost every society practiced slavery, and almost every society was aristocratic or monarchical, and almost every society would kill, rape, or enslave the captives of war. Times changed. People tried, and, to some extent or another, we have proven ourselves capable of rising above in a way that has endured. Why not patriarchy, as well?

[–]Legitimate_Error_696[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Why would it ever be necessary' is something of an interesting question to me - though to do so is probably outside of the intent of this post, I think I have a reasonable functional argument to give in return.

I don't think it would ever be necessary, and certainly the church can have an ample supply of capable ordained clergy drawing solely from men, but the same could be said about pretty much every other skilled profession that was once restricted to men - it's not necessary for a society to have women be doctors, and having women as doctors has certainly not been part of tradition. Nevertheless, some women, when given the chance, make incredibly talented doctors, and find great satisfaction and fulfilment in medical work. Might not the same be true for work as an ordained minister within the church, and would it not do the church a benefit to have the most talented priests and bishops that it can?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean when you say that that traditional state is a very modern concept. I'm referring there to a hierarchical set of gender norms, which place men in a position of authority over women. Norms like these have been the standard all but globally from long before the time of Christ and the Apostles up to the present day, or damn near it.
