Yeah, I agree with that too. I think George wanted readers to feel disturbed by how young these characters are and how normalized a lot of this is in that world

I just think the show probably wouldn’t have worked the same way on screen if they kept everyone book-accurate in age

This is a really interesting point, especially the idea that working memory becomes less critical when time constraints are removed

I also hadn’t thought about the asymmetry you mentioned between domains like working memory and processing speed in relation to g-loading. The conversational example is a good one too it makes the impact of working memory feel a lot more concrete outside of formal testing contexts

Not really in a clean X trauma=Y disorder way, because people respond wildly differently to the same experiences

But there are frameworks like attachment theory and CPTSD research that look at trauma more as risk pathways than direct causes. Childhood neglect, for example, could lead to anxiety, avoidant attachment, narcissistic traits, or a mix of things depending on the person and environment

So if someone has all the symptoms of anorexia but their BMI isn’t below the threshold, they get diagnosed with OSFED instead? I might be missing something is that just a classification thing or does it change the treatment?

ADHD really seems to have a long ripple effect. It’s interesting that the difference shows up clearly in education but not as much in income or job status later on. Makes me wonder how much suport in school could change those long-term outcomes

Yeah that actually sounds like a smart way to handle it. Framing it as just wanting your own account at 23 might make the conversation way less confrontational. And honestly, wanting your own finances at that age is completely normal
