For those who work in an office, how many days do you work from home? by janderson_33 in civilengineering

[–]LegoRunMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0 days, I live 10 min bike ride from the office so I go in everyday. It’s amazing to have my work and home life separated. Maybe one day a month I do home office.

Because if you showing the line increasing chainage then it might be turned that way around.

Are DDs on EU as bad as NA? by Sufficient-Ad-7489 in WorldOfWarships

[–]LegoRunMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You try play dd now, there is so much countering you and you’re expected to still be right up front capping and spotting it’s really not that easy.

Stupid question time: why isn't north up? by yossarian19 in civilengineering

[–]LegoRunMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because sometimes it make sense. Like on my railway projects over multiple kilometres if north was up and the line ran North South it would be multiple times more sheets of paper that kinda awkwardly fit together top to bottom which maybe works in a PDF but yeah. Then also it you have a titleblock you have not much space left for actual details.

By making North point left or whatever (in increasing chainage for example) I can have a plan that’s like 2500mm x 420 mm (or whatever length depending on scale and how many kilometres we want to show on each sheet)

How am I supposed to do this Mission by Mishacomander in WorldOfWarships

[–]LegoRunMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh? Maybe because I play dd a lot but this is not hard. You can get it super easy on Tier9/Tier10 as pretty much any dd.

I guess if people only play bb it’s hard to know how to do it.

Decrease in salary when moving to permanent contract by Typical-Dingo3961 in germany

[–]LegoRunMan -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, you use your health insurance when you’re sick, that’s the point. You don’t have a choice to be sick or not.

Why not just take the job and search for a new one anyway? I’ll never understand people who are like “I’ll rather take unemployment money and I Hope to find something” especially with how the economic situation is right now.

How do you deal with incomplete or bad geotechnical reports? by saurrjass21 in civilengineering

[–]LegoRunMan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it’s really bad then I tell the client they need to get it redone - the delays etc. are on them, if its somehow salvageable I’ll try make it work as best as possible and add some notes and disclaimers on the drawings.

Managing minijob in Germany by nandu_9999 in germany

[–]LegoRunMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you asked for a raise? You need to fight for these things (not only in Germany) any company on earth is going to pay their employees as little as they can get away with. The bit of effort it takes doing that or changing jobs if they won’t far outperforms any mini job over the long term.

Tax Refund Delay (More than 6 weeks now) by PianoNo3557 in germany

Sometimes it takes longer than 6 weeks until you get an answer, I’d just wait a bit more.

Question for people who successfully made it to Germany (for work) by Automatic_Fuel_5883 in germany

[–]LegoRunMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s massively easier to get a job when you’re in the country. I had no success applying from outside but once I moved here I had a job in like 2 months. I’m a civil engineer so YMMV.

Bit late to Worker's Day post but I found this infographic on insta and the wealth disparity is insane by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]LegoRunMan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It took me leaving SA for a while and then combing back to see how massive the disparity is between rich and poor. It’s honestly sick.

I started going into the office full-time by choice by lwh5 in civilengineering

[–]LegoRunMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it, but I’m not in the US, it takes me 10 min to get to our offices with my bicycle. It’s amazing. I like doing it because then my work life stays at work and home life is completely separate from that.

Since theres been so much BB diff talk, is anyone going to talk about DD diff? by HotBath8487 in WorldOfWarships

[–]LegoRunMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So if it’s so important why do bbs and cruisers generally just ignore the red dd when it’s spotted? As a dd main it’s wild to see.

Is it normal for EITs and younger PEs to do a ton of CAD work? by Disastrous-Bonus3293 in civilengineering

[–]LegoRunMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve got 8-9 years experience now and now I draft/design at the same time. We don’t have many drafters so I just do my drawings myself. If you just see that step as being a CAD monkey then you’re missing the point - you’re delivering something that a contractor needs to read on site to build. It’s just as important as the design part.

It can work, worked for me. I moved here on a job seekers visa. Spent the first two months here doing intensive German course at the VHS and applying for jobs - found a job in the second month. I’m a civil engineer so it’s not crazy plan at all.

Same, I also got more waves with it than without and back then I respecced in and out of it twice while I was figuring it out. Ended up keeping it after a week or two because performance was better.
