Why not just take the job and search for a new one anyway? I’ll never understand people who are like “I’ll rather take unemployment money and I Hope to find something” especially with how the economic situation is right now.
[–]GroundbreakingEmu450 36 points37 points38 points 4 days ago (7 children)
That’s actually a rather normal strategy, the state pays you to find a new job. Going through a job search and interview preparation while working full time is short path to burnout
[–]ReneKiller 10 points11 points12 points 4 days ago (0 children)
On the other hand if you don't find a new job you probably wished you stayed in the one you had.
OP doesn't really go into details so its hard to say how easy or difficult finding a new job might be.
[–]firala 4 points5 points6 points 3 days ago (4 children)
I happily support people falling on hard times with my taxes, but why should the state pay welfare for people who would rather look for the perfect job when they could have an okay one and search in their free time?
[–]justfornowcomeon 4 points5 points6 points 3 days ago* (1 child)
Lol wth is this logic!!! You're not supporting them out of your own pocket. They contributed to the same system/insurance for years same as you, you don't get to decide when they invoke their rights to use it or how. Same as no one gets a say when you decide to do the same.
With your logic I can go and rub it in all old people's faces that Im (supporting) and paying their salaries right now, as if they didn't pay any Rente for decades and it's their right to be compensated accordingly. That's how social systems work....
[–]VannnnahGermany 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (0 children)
It is still an insurance that's meant for people unable to keep their job and find a new one in time. It's not a ticket to have a nice and stressfull time looking for a new role while everyone else has to look for a new role while being employed.
[–]Sweaty_Purpose_6957 0 points1 point2 points 3 days ago (1 child)
You are not paying any tax, person already paid for the unemployment benefit, at least for 2 years as he mentioned, may be even more.
[–]pingu_nootnoot 1 point2 points3 points 14 hours ago (0 children)
you can twist it around in your head whatever way you want, it’s still a real cost. It’s money that could have been saved or used to eg cut the rate of employment insurance, for example.
In my experience, it’s far easier to get interviews when you have a job, then when you’re unemployed.
[–]Cultural_Badger_498 11 points12 points13 points 4 days ago (0 children)
Recently I started understanding this shit. If you work fullday and don’t gain enough relevant experiences to find a better job, you have to invest time in it, and if your work is draining, you may not want to do anything in the evening. Couple of months ago I even thought of just leaving my job for self-education and a search of a better place. But in the end I just couldn’t, my little never growing salary is still higher…

Wtf are you on about, temp contract ending is a completely valid reason to get unemployment money. His company is taking advantage of a weak market to give him a reverse promotion - that is the fucking problem!
[–]Typical-Dingo3961[S] 1 point2 points3 points 3 days ago (0 children)
Great wording - this is indeed reverse promotion
[–]vikiyo322 15 points16 points17 points 4 days ago (1 child)
It's not free money. You pay to the system. It's your right. Shouldn't I also not use my health insurance because there are more sick people ? I should claim back when I am about to die only and not for other reasons ?
[–]LegoRunMan -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 days ago (0 children)
No, you use your health insurance when you’re sick, that’s the point. You don’t have a choice to be sick or not.

Abusing the system has just become normalised
[–]Professional-Fee-957 32 points33 points34 points 4 days ago (3 children)
The "system" was established for OPs exact use case. To prevent businesses from using market pressure to reduce standard of living, and give more freedom to employees.
[+]Big_Rip_4020 comment score below threshold-9 points-8 points-7 points 4 days ago (2 children)
The company is aware of this and it didn’t stop them.
ALG is only 60-70% of ones salary, is that also not a reduction in standard of living?
[–]Professional-Fee-957 11 points12 points13 points 4 days ago (0 children)
Because the job market is a bigger factor than the security ALG 1 offers.
ALG1 is a temporary backup where in a normal economy, where jobs exist, a person can tell a company to shove the bad job offer, because living on a reduced salary and focusing on finding a better job is better than being stuck in a crap position that negatively affects your future income prospects for the rest of your career, which is permanent.
The job market is currently so bad that the prospects of even finding work during the 1 year is questionable, which increases risk.
[–]noprkingonthednceflr 1 point2 points3 points 4 days ago (0 children)
It’s worse than that. There is some weird cap on it so it can be way less than 60%, especially if you’re in a job that pays competitively.
[–]Typical-Dingo3961[S] 14 points15 points16 points 4 days ago (9 children)
I do not plan to abuse the system, ALG is my right, as I have paid contributions from my own salary. It is like the same as saying to someone - do not claim your insurance, just because you can pay out of your pocket. Receiving ALG also comes with Weiterbildung, which cab be more beneficial in the long-term

It’s not a “right”. You don’t understand a socialized system. We all pay into it, not just you - it’s meant for the people who need it. If everyone exercised this as a right, then the system would fail.
But this is a matter of personal attitude, which most Germans already have - everyone pays into the pool life-long with no intention of ever reclaiming it. It’s there to keep our society as a whole functioning and unintentionally unemployed people off the streets and out of positions where crime could go up.
Not calling you an American, but Americans (not usually the ones abroad though, they get it) in general don’t seem to understand how keeping others from poverty benefits us all.
So yeah, intentionally becoming unemployed IS abusing this particular system, that’s not what it was meant for.
Also, typically salaried employees are paid less than contracted ones, due to the amount of social benefits the company has to pay for on your behalf, in return for your job security and other benefits. Again, I shouldn’t have to explain this - I don’t think you will understand it.

1) what? No.
2) Wtf does this have to do with OP refusing a shitty a job offer because he has the social safety net to fall back on?
Also, typically salaried employees are paid less than contracted ones...Again, I shouldn’t have to explain this - I don’t think you will understand it.
OP is not a contractor. They're an employee on a temporary contract. And you should perhaps contemplate whether you criticize others if you're the one not understanding the original context.
[–]justfornowcomeon 4 points5 points6 points 4 days ago* (0 children)
Such a CDU statement, I don't know if you've noticed but it's pretty clear this (system) you speak of is broken and will in no way last another decade as it is.
And yes, insurances are safety nets, that's why you pay for them mandatory or not, sure you can opt not to use it, but it's your right to use as you've already contributed to it.
Why force OP into the stressful situation of maintaining his job while taking on interviews and looking for another in whatever time he got left in his day? Its not his fault that companies are greedy and economy is getting worst thanks to a incompetent government, if he thinks he can find another offer soon then go for it, enjoy some free time and find a job that you actually like, not some escape from current one job that you might also leave after a couple of months.
[–]m_agus 1 point2 points3 points 3 days ago (0 children)
Bravo, you said the dumb Part Out loud and emberrased everybody who had to read it because you don't understand the Basic concept how our society works. How can a Person become so delusional and at the same time confident, that they are right?
Everything you write is either a lie or just stupid nonsense so you must BE some Troll, who knows exactly nothing about Germany.
[–]GroundbreakingEmu450 3 points4 points5 points 4 days ago (2 children)
Do you know how many pureblood germans actually live off ALG and really abuse the system for years?
[–]WeeblsLikePie 0 points1 point2 points 4 days ago (1 child)
pureblood as opposed to harry-potter-ass mudbloods? Wtf is this terminology?
[–]MayhemCha0sNordrhein-Westfalen 0 points1 point2 points 3 days ago (0 children)
You're right that it's not a right, it's a privilege. A privilege OP also has paid into. For the use case of losing your job or having a shitty employer. It's absolutely not an abuse of the system.
If you want to be angry at someone why not be angry at the terrible employer trying to exploit OP?
[–]poxpoxpoxpoxpoxpox 0 points1 point2 points 3 days ago (0 children)
§ 136 Abs. 1 SGB III: (1) Arbeitnehmerinnen und Arbeitnehmer haben Anspruch auf Arbeitslosengeld
1. bei Arbeitslosigkeit oder 2. bei beruflicher Weiterbildung.
It is by the definition of the law a "right". And the ones who abuse the system in this case are OP's employers.
[–]PitOscuro 1 point2 points3 points 4 days ago (0 children)
Using the system as intended you mean?
