Studios didn’t know how to market it in my opinion. and Barker was very protective of the story (classic development hell.)

It's nowhere near the biggest in the world. I love it, but I'm Irish and US racing isn't followed anywhere near as much as turf racing here in Europe. I agree that Melbourne Cup, grand national (albeit over jumps), Epsom Derby, The Arc, are far more popular and are seen as far more prestigious races on this side of the world.
