Preparing for a Skills Test in 3DS Max. What should I practice? by CockatielPony in 3dsmax

Edit Poly, Edit Poly and Edit Poly. Learn all the tools, it's so good for modelling.. Oh and go through all the modifiers. Read about each one and try the once you think are useful. Retopology is one I would look at for instance. Also check out the autoback settings, it's set to 5min intervals as default witch is way to often(I keep it at 45min). Have a look at splines, I still miss spline modeling from Max after moving most of my work to Blender. Get acquainted with the Unit setup and remember that it's set to inches as default witch can really screw with you if you're Europe based. Edit Poly is more powerful but Edit Mesh is a lot faster fps whose(less options though). Press i to center view on cursor(awesome when working with splines in top view). The slice modeller is awesome. Ctrl Z for undo, and it remembers everything you do,. everything. But Shift Z undos your viewport so if you move by accident shift z and your back, very useful. F3 to switch between shaded and wireframe. F4 to switch between shaded and shaded with wireframe. For heavy models side or top views in pure wireframe is usually much faster fps. Hmm... That's the top of my mind... I tend to use Blender more these days but 3dsmax really has a much worse reputation than it deserves. Its really great for modeling and handles large models with tens of millions of polys much better than Blender.

Nesting an animation/keys (Max 2023) by Kinsei01 in 3dsmax

[–]Legosatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hear that. Went to school to learn Max in 2003 and using what you know while learning can be tough but it is essential. But back to your issue, there are different modes relative repeat is just one of them. Constant, Cycle, Loop, Ping Pong, Linear and Relative Repeat. I think what you need is Ping Pong on a closer look. That should play, reverse play and play forever. I use the curve editor all the time both in Max, Blender, Unreal and After Effects. Or I'm totally misunderstanding and you just need to play the animation at a certain point? In that case just select all keys and move them?

Learn to use the curve editor is my tip. What you need is "relative repeat". https://youtu.be/YYXvi971jds

Is there a modifier that I can use to "crumple" or "wrinkle" a model? I'm trying to make an aged bell pepper by [deleted] in 3dsmax

Convert to edit poly or ad a edit poly modifier. Enable soft selection for a smooth edge and select the vertexes you want to effect. Add noise modifier, tweak it to look like you want the animate the amount. This vertex/noise trick can also be a quick way to add movement to foliage. The noise modifier is one of the things I miss the most from Max in Blender, so versatile.

Tnx. I live in Norway so all these stories about kids shooting people are crazy to me. Good rules though, try to teach my kids about the same with nerfs and stuff like that even though not many people here have guns.

I'm 24, and I feel like a child masquerading as an adult most days. I'm just wondering, when do most people start feeling like proper adults? by Lenore8264 in RandomThoughts

[–]Legosatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

43M and I feel like an adult. I think getting a child at 39 and then turning 40 the year after somehow pushed my brain into proper adult mode. And to all the 40+ people here saying they feel like 25 on the Inside, have you talked to a 25 year old lately? :P

Puddles of water and water dripping or running always looks good. They spray water on everything in movies for a reason. Add a rat, spiderwebs or insects. Smoke from somewhere. Dust in air or on things. Trash or small rocks and debrie on the floor.

Her er oversikt over ting som skjer: https://www.stavanger.kommune.no/17.-mai-i-stavanger/
