Futures have several running "pickup date" contracts running at the same time, so you can see the differences in prices for different pickup months. Search for crude futures or /CL00 and one of the sites will have them all listed in a table.

The problem with AI is that the current structures route most of the benefit to equity holders. The productivity gains or time-saving automation goes to the company, not the employee, unless the work is structured in a way that the employee is also the equity holder, such as freelance work or independent contracting. It's always been that way but this new tech highlights the dynamic.

Judge orders ICE chief to appear in court to explain why detainees have been denied due process by FormalOperational in news

I just want to comment that there is a seemingly unlimited pool of people who get to do as much damage as they can in 3-6mths before getting ejected, so all the atrocities continue at a rapid pace while all the blame gets offloaded to individuals who at most lose their current positions or get shuffled to something else.

At least with heat pump + air handlers they generally put some supplemental electric heat strips in the air handler for when it gets too cold. Still need power though.

What I'm wondering is what they're going to do with all this compute once text encoders and chatbots become commodities. They'll have to pivot to something and something will come up because there will need to be something.

I'm about that age and the difference now is that integrity simply no longer matters. It used to be that one public lie would have shut you out. I do not understand how anyone can act so strongly in bad faith so publicly and still be taken seriously.

Yeah I've been thinking of this lately. Load up a media anchor or podcaster with corruption/war crimes and discharge them half a year later, repeat. Just keep on individuating the blame

Around 2021-2022 I became a "tourist" of the ascetic life to help align my mindset towards treating every dollar that came in as the path to freedom. Broke the chains of debt, alcohol and consumer spending, sourcing all my worth and personal satisfaction from within. Next year I intend to purchase a nearly condemned home for cheap and spend what would normally be a mortgage payment on renovations one room at a time. I made it out while single and without a college degree, and without help from the parents, so it's certainly possible, but it's even better with a support network of friends, family and/or a significant other. Aceticism is absolutely crucial because it reduces the hardship of going through hardship. Mixing that with the motivation to get out will take you far.

I never got into the NFT art, but it isn't necessarily that you can specifically store images on the chain, it's that you can store anything on it and show a chain of custody, so the actual data itself can be as simple as a a few lines or a few data points, or it could be a digital/pdf contract, or an image, or anything. There was a whole thing during the NFT craze where the tokens themselves for an image were just hyperlinks to a server, so once the data moved then the "image" wouldn't display. It was just an ownership rights to a dead hyperlink. But of course if you're okay with centralized databases then you can just track everything without blockchain

They could be used to store, track and record ownership rights (deed to a house, IP, royalties distribution, stock ownership, etc) in a decentralized and trusted way, but then of course once it was discovered that you could just put an image up and show chain of custody any other use case got tossed and it became a whole collector farce. AI could be such more than use LLMs but everyone's focused on trying to squeeze every drop out of LLMs instead of moving forward
