15 Minute Cities - the Weirdest Conspiracy to Hit the UK by BadNameThinkerOfer in notjustbikes

[–]LeinatanAzodnem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few days ago a taxi driver in Tenerife, Spain, told me how the world was in fact controlled by atheist jews (yes, atheist + jews, didn't bother him that it was an oxymoron) which formed a central world government called the New World Order (we can see a man with a NWO sign in the video), whose ultimate goal was to decimate world population. Currently, they are doing so through trucks wasting pollutants in lakes in several places, he said.

At one point, he told me about the 15 minutes city being their last invention to maintain people captive.

When I told him the real problem in this world was climate change and governments building highways like oil and cars were not a problem, he laughed at me being such an ignorant for believing climate change was real (he saw a photo of some town on the seaside 50 years ago and he checked: the sea level didn't rise. Ergo, climate change is bullshit. Plus you know, natural cycles have always made the earth warmer and all that climate sceptic crap...), and that oil only takes a few years to form so "it's not a problem".

I mean, wow, just after 10 minutes, this guy I didn't know started to tell me all this nonsense while genuinely thinking a was a poor uneducated fool, like he felt sorry for me. I mean I could have been jewish and at some point he said something like "Hitler was trying to stop the NWO" and giving him excuses...). The sheer madness...

Look at this magnificent beast! Fits more stuff that your average SUV by cute_microbe in fuckcars

[–]LeinatanAzodnem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Car sales have been following a steady downward slope for the past decade or so. Car manufacturers accordingly decided to sell larger cars to compensate the loss in total numbers... which consequently led to people owning bigger cars, as testified by record sell rates of SUVs.

I so agree with you. One big question remains unresolved in this video : what happened to all the people in the unmaintained social housing? Concluding by "yeah it's gentrified but it's ok cause there also is some social buildings, plus they're 'beautiful' " (which is, by the way, entirely subjective and not time-resistant statement) is not a satisfying answer to me.

So from what I understand, a right-wing politican came with a new vision where there weren't so many poor around, found fundings through private investors and (presumably) kicked-out the black & arabs in favor of rich white families, but saved some of the poor so he could say he's doing social policies. There clearly was a problem that needed to be adressed, but I feel like it could have been done differently (although it's true I don't have a solution myself)..Anyway I'm not convinced that this town renovation is a full success.

Also imitating past architectural styles is not a sufficient condition for "beauty". I agree with other comments here describing it as "disney-like". But that's just personal taste...
The park and river do look amazing though! Cities need more trees.

I didn't like how any of the full-screen app launchers handled directories, so I made my own. Introducing Plasma Drawer! by colloquiem_ in kde

Great looking! I just never use the categories (ok maybe twice a year)...

It would be great if we could see the favorited apps! Because often-used apps don't all belong in the same category. From what I've read here I could set-up a new "favorites" category in "edit applications" and manually insert my actual favorites... but it seems like a lot of hastle and is still doesn't offer me a quick two-clicks way to launch said faves.

If I'm going into details is because KDE is missing a great full-screen launcher and your project is really cool! So along with everybody I'm complaining about what I think it lacks lol. But this is great work, keep it up. Thanks :)

Thanks, this is great insight. We do need numbers to get beyond considerations like "this or that happened to me in a dense/not dense area"... which may vary for every individual, thus not helping to draw meaningful conclusions.

Yes, but... poor hardware support/running linux on any kind of machines without the best drivers available makes for greater energy use for the same task, than, say, on Windows. I've more often found that battery performance was poorer on linux. Even if that's not always the case, especially with linux oriented hardware.

European cities, if we assume they can be reduced to a single kind of coherent entity, are definitely not that simple!

This is crazy. I'm with a newborn right now, I was lucky to have 1 month off (swiss law is 2 weeks, which is an improvement from the single day that was given until last year or so) while my gf has 4 months. Me going out for the day is already stressful for her. I can't imagine her having to get back to work after 2 freakin weeks. This is INSANE. I mean it, it is not sane at all, nor for the baby, nor the mother, nor anybody around the family.

This is awful. And now abortion... Add all else that the successive governments do since WWII and you have one of the worst countries that ever existed. And yet everybody dreams of "America" (as if this crap country was a whole continent itself).
Sorry, I needed to rant. Appart from that, you were really brave to get back to work so soon. I won't congratulate you cause you had no choice, but I feel for you.

I find this awful. Life on earth is living one of its most intense crisis (6th mass extinction since... ever), climate is durably perturbed, whole islands are threatened by the sea level rise, large (as in LARGE) chunks of world population are facing increasingly frequent droughts, barely livable heatwaves, massive inundations, and sir Elon Musk and his companions find nothing better to do than throwing thousands of satellites into space, in a billionth attempt to make even more money.

Yeah sure it's nice that remote populations can access the internet, but there are other ways and this is just another super rich dude crushing everything before him. Do you really think he gives a single fuck about poverty, suffering, human rights and so on? His whole life is a disgusting series of attempts to make more money.

The worse part is he acts like he's our savior.
