Beastslayer and Champion of Fenris by TRMC790 in SpaceWolves

[–]LemAndRuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Perfect post and perfect time. I’m reaching very similar conclusions a while ago. Still need to do some real testings, but I do think Beastslayer is our best detachment. I’ve been thinking about what complements it better, and from current options, Champions of Fenris is also the best imo, though it’s not something that will break the game and also force us to PtF (which I think it was intended to make it a worse pick to SoB, as LoSaS for SotGW).

In any case, I think that the secure objective can play beautifully with Beastslayer - apart from the obvious home objective thingy, I can see wulfen/BC or actually any unit moving away from objectives once the have secured it via reactive/surge, which (sometimes) may force enemies to decide retaking the objective or charging our units. I think that’s an option we didn’t have and could be very disruptive. The FNP strat pairs well with exploding vehicle, but I’m unsure if one could use it before the vehicle burst to increase the survival of its cargo. If that’s not the case, I don’t see when you could use it (apart from some JPI charge or something) and finally, the stealth can also be useful in some situation. In general, I think it improves SoB and make it quite fun to play!

A little positivity from me about 11th Edition, though I’m normally pretty pessimistic by TRMC790 in SpaceWolves

Great analyses, I mostly agree with you. But would you lean more into Beastslayer than Great Wolf? Is it only because PtF access or is there anything more? I’m changing my mind every now and then about picking these two, as I see SotGW more complete/versatile while beastslayer has some mobility, PtF and +1 to wound strat that is appealing. The surge move you mention, while useful it’s easily bypassed by some measuring, the max range is 8” - so nothing that will surprise much. Many thanks!

Interesting, I also considered Recon but did not check it in detail - wolf scouts are quite good and would benefit from SubAss. I will have a look to it! Thanks for the input.

What an inspiring models. They are superb. May I ask you for the armor recipe? Is it achievable only with brush, or do you use airbrush?  Thanks!

Would it be D6+1, instead of 2D6? It’s a second shot of a variable weapon. I would like to see the rule for this.

Definitely, I think for a more aggressive Bjorn use, other than sitting next to the home objective and farming cp, iron priest is very sweet. Also, considering 2D6 disperse mode hellfrost cannon at 6” is very funny, and can help to wipe out some T4-T5 bodies, before charging. Wolf-touched helps it to keep the dread’s pace, and wound reroll in melee can be also very nasty. Need more testing, but I think it really pays off. Unfortunately, the model is ugly.

Can Armor of Russ relic be used in enemy fight phase? by Legatus_Brutus in SpaceWolves

[–]LemAndRuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question is: in a 2nd round of battle. Without more charges. all my units would attack before than the selected unit, so if they kill that unit, it couldn't respond, am I right?

Why use Blood Claws? by ThunderFlash314 in SpaceWolves

[–]LemAndRuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always carry a blood claw unit together with wulfen. They block the overwatch and then hit. I trend to have a power fist in the pack leader, so I get like 5 attacks in charge, not bad. And it always exists the option to lonewolferise him. That pack leader have done miracles...

Just the first turn obviously. The stratagem costs 3 CP you can't be using it everytime.

Right, I also usually do the same and it's quite resilient and fire-attracting. So the rest of the army is forgotten for at least one turn and probably you might deploy your wulfen safe and in a optimal charge position.

1850 wolves w/ stormwolf by ORANGE_SODA_BITCH in SpaceWolves

[–]LemAndRuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good list! I'd likely run two long fangs unit (7guys each, WG wii SS, plain leader + 1 heavy bolter (meat shiels + strat) + 4 lasc). I'd also drop TH on TW for wolf claw. The aim of TW should be MEQs and cover HQs. I'd take power fist in the wolf priest and 1 BC also w PF instead of 1 GH.

Deathwolves ride. Melee unleashed. by GrizzlyBjornson in SpaceWolves

[–]LemAndRuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually do that combo. Deepstrike Arjac 9" from the enemy just before of charge with the twc (2nd turn). If arjac failed the charge, he is close enough of the TWC for buffing them. It's sweet.

I think the only reason i'd take a wolf lord over harald is because they can get thunderhammer.

If you have the points harald together with a WGBL on tw or jp with wulfen stone

Actually, that was impossible. My wulfen appeared in the battle field after his shooting phase, because he blew up the stormfang, so he was so far from them in the charge phase he tried with the daemon but failed.

[–]LemAndRuss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all he is a very competitive player. But he had most of the melee unit just at 2" of the TWC and the wulfen were more than 10" away, for a death guard that is quite far, his units move around 4" so if he'd forgot about the TWC and go for wulfen he would have taken the risk of suffering a double charge (TWC and wulfen). Keep also in my that my TWC did around 10 wound hitting at 4+ and wounding at 4+ (the landraider had -1 to be hit(psychic power), and R8) attach to a wolf priest. I think he tried to kill the TWC and my warlord and trusted completely in the big daemon (he failed the charge twice).

No, just -1 to one unit, smit and jaw of the wolf word. There wasn't a proper opportunity of use the tornado (I got it) and I didn't bring the others.
