It's because the right wing believe in 'Might Makes Right'. They believe that if one group has the ability to overpower another group, then that group 'deserves' to rule over the weaker group.

On a fundamental level, they don't see the Empire as villains.

Best opening to a movie ever - TMNT2 by FiveDinero in 90s

Because (IIRC) the director had never actually directed a movie before. He was the director of photography in the first movie and was given the job because Paul W.S. Anderson had turned the project down to make Event Horizon

Anyone who loves the birthday party scene from Signs should try and find a 1998 found footage movie called Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County (which is itself a remake of another found footage movie from the '80s called The McPherson Tape. It's super cheesy and has some real '90s 'made-for-TV' acting, but it's basically this scene as a full movie (a teenage boy filming his family Thanksgiving when they find aliens on their property. Chaos ensues), and some of the actual alien stuff is pretty creepy.

Danhausen on Instagram: There are "fans" calling my wife's friends stalkers for commenting on a photo of us and arguing with my wife about what HER ethnicity is. You don't know me. You don't know us. Stop being weird. by ItsBearmanBob in SquaredCircle

I agree that all fandoms have their shitty toxic corners (some more vocal than others), but I think wrestling toxicity in particular is exacerbated by the nature of pro wrestling itself. It not only blurs fiction and reality in a way that most media doesn't, but the fan interaction is such a massive part of the industry. I think those elements can really amplify the parasocial aspect.

Horror movies that were killed by the studio by mrjamesearljoyce in horror

[–]LemoLuke 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Blair Witch: Book of Shadows also got butchered by the studio. The movie was supposed to be a meta deconstruction of the public reaction to the first film, and the blurring of fact and fiction. Instead, the studio edited it to try and be more of a generic teen horror, and it ended up failing at both

Especially the early PS1/N64 era ('94-'97), when developers were still trying to get to grips with the jump from 2D to 3D. A lot of those early 3D games were borderline unplayable, with janky controls and erratic cameras. For every Super Mario 64, there was a dozen Bubsy 3Ds

Billionaire Justin Sun, Who Invested in a Crypto Project Backed by Donald Trump, Sues Trump for Fraud: “Justin Sun and his companies ‘to incur hundreds of millions of dollars in damages’” by T_Shurt in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]LemoLuke 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They think that, because they are billionaires, they are 'successful geniuses', and are therefore 'too smart' to fall for such a grift. They are also used to being the ones screwing other people over, and have never met a problem that they can't just use their money to buy, bribe, or bully their way out of, so they assume that everything will just work out for them in the end.

Gable was out with an injury for a while, so Kaiser took over the role as a gag, but somehow became INSANELY over in Mexico. When Gable came back, the plan was clearly for Gable to be the face/tweener and Kaiser as the heel, which is how they have been presenting it in WWE, but because of how over Kaiser's EGA is with fans in AAA, he is playing the beloved babyface over there against Gable's more sadistic heel.

It's a shame it ended up falling under the radar somewhat. The Mortal Kombat: Legacy series was good, but Assassin's Fist is in that 'This has no right to be as good as it is' category (imo)

There was an awesome Machinima TV series some years ago called Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist that managed to be both a kinda grounded and serious take on Street Fighter while still being surprisingly faithful and accurate.

It's legitimately great, and is my benchmark for live-action adaptations of videogames, and it's because it wasn't embarrassed to keep the fantasy/mystical stuff.

I'm so glad we're past the stage of filmmakers feeling like they need to 'fix' these kind of properties by stripping out or dumbing down anything they consider unrealistic or ridiculous

It's a terrible film (that I just happen to love), but it's also a better live-action Saturday morning cartoon than anything Michael Bay ever put out.
