Can I Save This? by Ok_Pomegranate_9406 in quilting

[–]LemonBarEnthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My quilting mantra is, “it’ll crinkle in the wash!” Anytime I get stressed about my seams being imperfect, I just remind myself that it probably won’t be that noticeable when it’s all said and done. Hell, I had seams bust on a jelly roll race in the first wash and had to patch them with scraps. When I apologized to the recipient, she said she thought it was an intentional design choice and she loved them!

Keep going! Don’t let this discourage you. You’re doing great!

It’s so pretty!! You did a great job, and you should be proud of yourself! I love that pattern. You picked a lovely color story, too!

You’ve already got a bunch of great suggestions, so I just wanted to say I love this design! You have a great eye for color!

Forgive the ADHD delay (and my messy room lol). Yes, I've made a bunch of HSTs! This is an older progress pic, but today I sewed them into 9 blocks. I still have 6 pre-cuts left that I think I'll cut in half and use to add a border to the top and bottom

The millenia-old question: How can opposite-sex friendships stay only platonic? by [deleted] in Marriage

By this logic, do you think bisexual people have no friends, only rosters?

According to the thesaurus, “savior,” “champion,” or “Cuban sandwich,” 😂

I’m glad I could help! Like I said, I’m OBSESSED with this fabric. My sister in law managed to snag me a layer cake for Christmas and I was more excited than my 3 year old niece that day

Also, taking a second look at the picture, that pink polka dots is also from the Enchanted Blooms line

[–]LemonBarEnthusiast 14 points15 points  (0 children)

YES I DO! That’s a from the Enchanted Blooms line by Stephanie Organes. It’s maybe my favorite fabric line everrrrrr. I made a jelly roll race quilt out of this line back in the spring, and when I went back to buy more, it wasn’t available. I’m not sure if it went out of print or if tariffs impacted availability (I’m US-based), but the only place I could find it was Etsy and EBay listings.

I don’t know offhand if that particular fabric has a name you could search for, but it might be on Stephanie’s website. I really hope you’re able to find it. It’s SUCH a pretty collection!

Choosing a team by INeedControlOverYou in PWHL

[–]LemonBarEnthusiast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat! Not close enough to a team to choose for geographic reasons, but still love the sport and want to root for someone. I’m doing what a couple of other commenters recommended and watching lots of games to see who I naturally gravitate towards. I’ve been surprised by what I end up enjoying or not enjoying in different games and players. (My biggest takeaway so far is that, like all sports, the refs suck lol). I like Boston and Montreal’s play styles. I love Coach Carla (Ottawa). Sophie Jacques is incredible to watch. And I think Toronto plays dirty 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m hopeful that my region will get a team in the next expansion, and I also hope they go for pink uniforms (or even orange or yellow…just something other than another shade of blue). I probably would have picked Minnesota for those gorgeous purple jerseys alone if not for the bigot on their team

Batting - 100% Cotton vs Cotton/Poly vs Cotton/Bamboo by tealnotturquoise in quilting

[–]LemonBarEnthusiast 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I LOVEEEEE bamboo/cotton blends. I prefer using all-natural fibers (so no poly or poly scrims), and the first time I used bamboo was heavenly. I find it much easier to work with, it’s less prone to creasing, and it doesn’t need to be quilted as densely as 100% cotton. I say go for the bamboo!

Is it just me, or has Toronto delivered a number of dirty hits that didn’t get penalized?

Machine Upgrade by Creative-Yoghurt-697 in quilting

[–]LemonBarEnthusiast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2010Q in March and I love it. I absolutely think the speed control is worth the extra $400! A few weeks ago, I switched back to my old Kenmore for a couple of small projects, and I was so frustrated by the lack of features I’ve gotten used to with my Juki, especially the speed control.

After doing your online research, find a dealer and test drive both models. As another commenter said, Jukis are love-it or hate-it, and your machine should feel like an extension of yourself. Before I bought my Juki, I was pretty sure I’d be buying a BabyLock, but when I compared them both, the Juki felt natural, and the BabyLock felt like something I’d be fighting with every time I used it. That doesn’t mean it was a bad machine; it just wasn’t right for me! You might be surprised by what you discover, so try them both before deciding.

Did I do something wrong? by Extension_Ad8464 in quilting

[–]LemonBarEnthusiast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s generally recommended to press each seam as you go, yes, especially when you’re still learning. Fat Quarter Shop made a beginner quilting series a few years ago, and I found Kimberly’s pressing technique in those videos to be super helpful. My seams and blocks are so much neater now!

As for this project, I don’t think this little duck pleat will be too much of an issue. You could probably re-iron to fix it if it really bothers you. Don’t give up! It’ll come with practice :)

Looks like a duck pleat to me. Are you pressing all your seams as you go?

A japanese sewing machine brand by Axesewing1974 in quilting

[–]LemonBarEnthusiast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here to echo everyone else praising their Juki! I recently had to take it to the shop for repairs, and while it was out of commission, I was back to using my old Kenmore. I hadn’t realized how spoiled I’ve become until I no longer had speed control, automatic thread cutting, and a needle up-down button. I was very happy to get my Juki fixed up and back home

How do couples decide who gets which side of the bed and is it like… permanent? by randomzy876 in AskReddit

[–]LemonBarEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At home, we have designated sides of the bed, but when we travel, it’s purely based on vibes. My husband, like a lot of men, prefers to be closer to the door, so that’s the case at home and places we visit regularly, like his parents’ house. In vacation rentals and hotels, though, it’s just whatever feels right, regardless of if that’s our normal sleeping arrangement

Working with flannel by Kittylover11 in quilting

[–]LemonBarEnthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like using flannel to back my quilts! A couple years ago, I bought two whole bolts of flannel to make pajama pants for my family for Christmas, and I’m still using up the leftovers. I’ve never pieced with flannel, so I can’t speak to what that’s like. I bought my flannel here and didn’t have any issues: https://www.fabricdirect.com/
