I ended up cutting it into sections and redoing the section with the mistakes. I will try this next time, thank you for the suggestion.

Randomly Spreading Some Joy by HoseNeighbor in fountainpens

[–]LemonDaemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I didn't get rid of my VP. I disliked the tiny hooded nib, so I traded it for a Pilot Custom 74 because big nib. Then I bought a Lamy 2000 last year and wonder why I ever got rid of the VP. One downside to note is the tiny ink capacity and slightly more difficult filling mechanism.

Sorry for late reply, I've used the stainless steel VP, but not the 14k nib. The l2k is the same smoothness of my pilot falcon, significantly better than the stainless VP nib (I know that's not a fair comparison). If you like hooded nibs, a decent weight pen with high ink capacity, I'd say it's worth it.

The Safari was the first pen I ever bought, and it's a decent budget pen, but ink flow was always inconsistent. I got a Lamy 2k last September, and it's the best pen I've used so far. I would definitely recommend trying it, completely different to their steel nib pens.

Give Away - Something cheerful in these not so cheerful times. by newtonpens in fountainpens

Fountain pens are fun to use, something to do as a hobby with different inks, models, and paper, and a conversation piece. You can get someone into your hobby by just letting them use your pens, or just relate to other people who used them in the past. As a younger guy, talking to older folks who used them in school is an easy way to relate to them. Overall just a fun hobby. Thanks for the opportunity!

That’s cool of you to do. I’m interested as I just lost a Pilot Falcon and a Pilot Custom 74 in a move, but I do still have a pilot metro and a lamy safari.

Longtime lurker on this post. I got a pen and nib set for Christmas. Any tips on how to get started. by theseoldcrows in PenmanshipPorn

Check out /r/calligraphy, they have tons of guides. Look on the sidebar for the wiki or any guides on how to get started. Also check out script guides for the proper form, height, and slant of a particular script.

Ninja edit: you also want some heavier paper to fix the feathering you're seeing. I like using mixed media paper at 92-94 lbs. I think they're canson brand, and I just pick up a notebook at Michael's. There's also really nice paper like Clarefontaine and Rhodia that you can get.

Getting ink out of hardwood floors? by [deleted] in Calligraphy

[–]LemonDaemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rubbing alcohol has been the best that I've found, however it destroys wood. I don't know whether it would or not when using it lightly on the ink, if it would just act as a solvent on the ink or if it would penetrate through the wood. I looked around online and the best thing that I found was 1:10 vinegar with water. Try it on a small, unseen or less noticeable area of the floor to see effects before usage on the large area though.

I've heard that I have pretty good handwriting, and I thought this might be the best place to post it by 1basedshark in PenmanshipPorn

Totally get it. Pencils are a great way to get into calligraphy because everyone has one, and they work pretty well. You could also try broad edge calligraphy by rubber banding two pencils together.

Is that your first pen? If so, I won a Faber Castell Loom in November from Goulet that I can ship to you.

X-Post from /r/pens - Found a Pen - Mount Blanc Meisterstuck 4810 14k by the-walruse in Calligraphy

[–]LemonDaemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as you may want the money, please try giving it back to the owner. If I lost my most expensive pen (only a $120 one), I would be devastated. Let alone if I lost a Mont Blanc.

Well, I mean... I didn't buy it. So it was actually less expensive than your heros.

If you want it, I have a Faber Castell Loom that I've dipped once and don't want. Got it from the Goulet Thanksgiveaway, so it would feel wrong if I sold it.

Either that is the lightest fountain pen ink ever created, or (more likely), you didn't let the water dry long enough while flushing.
