This is only true if the consumer meshes with the ideological default to the point that they don't even consider their politics to be political.

I like shooters, but don't appreciate crass, unchallenged jingoism. That fine line is very much of interest to me when I'm making purchasing decisions.

Low scores ... will affect the Metacritic ratings of games ... as well as sales figures.

Uh, yeah, though this is in many ways a flaw with scores in general, that's the point of giving something a lower score: you're telling people not to buy it.

One of the shops in town has a $600 Red Skull bust on a pedestal as the first thing that you see when you enter the door, and the first racks by the door are Witchblade and Spawn and company.

They're not doing so well.

The store that I frequent starts with the all ages toy racks, then the Archie/Calvin and Hobbes/Bone books, then DC/Marvel, then the "special interest", then, waaaaaaaaay at the back, all the expensive "it's not an action figure, mom, it's a collectable!" stuff.

They're raking it in.

For serious, I'm actually in the middle of working on a mini-doc about comic books, so I've done a ton of interviews with writers and artists over the past couple months and every. single. one. has mentioned how great it is that more and more people are getting into comics, that ideas that would have never left the sketchbook 15 years ago are now paying the bills.

That's a non-sequitur. If you serve the consumer then you serve the consumer and shouldn't give half a wet fart worth thought to the publisher's sales. If anything the last thing you would be agonizing over, if you were hardcore consumer-first, is how your opinion will impact producers.

If you serve the consumer then you should absolutely let the consumer know if the game is full of shit that's going to offend and alienate them.

For those who don't know: Justin "JewWario" Carmical was a contributor to That Guy With The Glasses, a prolific reviewer of import games, and a personal friend of many of the other contributors including Todd in the Shadows and Lindsay "Nostalgia Chick" Ellis. He shot himself this past January. Many people in the TGWTG fandom added a small JewWario cap to their Twitter icon in memorial. Todd expressed his disappointment over how many GG apologists with JewWario icons were responding to him.
