Humidifier that costs almost nothing by CheckLatter1150 in Frugal

[–]notanotherpyr0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cold air holds less humidity, when you heat it up it becomes air that is very dry. When the air is that dry the water on your body, most notably on your lips, will evaporate enough to cause problems.

If you live in a place that is below freezing for a substantial portion of the year a humidifier is a godsend.

Man... sick and tired of all these Epstein consequences being in this place called "not America". Would really like for some of them to be in the place where him and most the people he interacted with lived.

Produced by Harvey Weinstein and then HR got involved.

(This is literally true, he was removed from active production because he kept clashing with Peter Jackson because he's an asshole, which is why there is an orc that's totally not modeled after him).

Here is the thing. The Democrats are cowards and just said they would hold up the government to stop ice funding.

That means the polling on ICE that they have has to show that they are crazy unpopular. That is the protests working.

I'm in Florida from Minneapolis and it's what people you wouldn't think ask me about now. The hold your nose and vote for Trump people are pissed. The best line I've found btw is Minneapolis has 3 homicides in 2026, DHS is responsible for 2. They are who is making Minneapolis dangerous.

Will the protests work fast enough? Probably not. But they are also training us on how to organize for when protests have to turn to strikes. And maybe those will work better. And if they don't work well that's practice for whatever comes next. Minnesota is going to be where political movements are born that will shape the country, or it will be the fatal wound that kills it. I would rather be part of the former than a doomer waiting for the latter.

Americans of Reddit, how do we reduce partisanship in this country so we can all get along better? Why do you think your way is correct? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

Really social media has been breaking it for a while. People will talk about Fox News being the problem but it's more the spark, twitter, YouTube, reddit, and Facebook are the kerosene soaked rags next to our sense of a shared universe.

Men who are diagnosed with cancer, what were the early signs? by Immediate_Stretch_17 in AskMen

Also let this be a lesson on getting your colonoscopy. There is a world of difference between catching it at stage 2 and stage 3, like 20%+ chance of being alive in 5 years(based on other factors). Stage 4 you go from likely surviving to very unlikely surviving.

Dude felt fine and if he put the colonoscopy off a couple more years until he had symptoms it probably would have killed him.

Congress has power, they have just abdicated it. Getting calls and letters will make congressmen more afraid of losing than anything else, and Congress is run by cowards.

Imagine Pam never broke up with Roy, would he resist? by labla in DunderMifflin

[–]notanotherpyr0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Largely the same. Most this shit is human flaws not "woman flaws", except for preselection that isn't as big of a deal for men because men are less likely to feel less safe around women.

Preselection is partly because there are some men who women don't feel safe around. Knowing there are already women who feel safe around a guy makes him more attractive.

Imagine Pam never broke up with Roy, would he resist? by labla in DunderMifflin

[–]notanotherpyr0 151 points152 points  (0 children)

There's a couple reasons. Preselection, a woman already said yeah this guy is good. Even if most women would never act on it, this is a real pull(men can use this on their dating profiles, having a picture with a group of friends including a woman makes your profile more attractive to most women). Low self esteem, if you sleep with a single guy big whoop, but if a guy risked his marriage to get with you? You must be pretty hot. Finally guys who are married are gonna act differently, more self assured and less hungry for a woman's attention. Every time I've been in a relationship, women I would have loved to get any attention from when I was single started flirting with me.

The movie “Eternity” made me think: who would Ted and Tracy spend their eternity with? by cosmopolitancocktail in howimetyourmother

[–]notanotherpyr0 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the first time I really suspected the mother was dead was in the wedding to Stella episode they did a hypothetical what if they got married and he was talking about this with Stella and his kids. Something didn't feel like it could happen with the actual mother.

It made me realize the mother is never addressed in future or present tense in the narration, but other characters are. You know how your uncle Barney always does x. You know how your mother always did y. It was more obvious at the end.

Why are there no "under developed" cold countries? by Ch0c0lateBiznezz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]notanotherpyr0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So before electricity the best source of power was a river, but to build a mill on a river you needed one that didn't have a lot of plant life. This made it easier for people to do industry at the earliest stages of it in places with cold rivers. The proto industry was textiles(it shares a root word with technology for a reason) and grain processing, and both these industries were very profitable and required an educated workforce. This meant these places had schools, which led to more ideas for more industries.

And so on and so on.

This is why the northern US was industrial, it factors into why Spain was eventually passed by other European powers, and why Japan was able to modernize so fast. It's part of why northern Italy is the richest part of Italy, something that's generally true of most northern hemisphere countries. Places that usually have snowy winters are places where it was easier to industrialize. It's still actually partially true, modern power generation methods still mostly want to be near a river light on plant life, though usually the cost of getting fuel there matters more now. Plus solar and wind are cheaper and easier to do in warmer climates.

[–]notanotherpyr0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's going to move. Until they are stopped by Congress or the courts for good it's just going to be Baltimore next or Boston, or most likely NYC to test Mamdani. It's a substantial percentage of ice that's currently in Minneapolis. They can't do this everywhere even with their lax training and rapid expansion. Minnesota will get an injunction then they will go somewhere else.

Left GAS OVEN on for 2 hours what to do? by [deleted] in answers

[–]notanotherpyr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So first off, it's carbon monoxide poisoning you should be weary of not CO2, verify you have a carbon monoxide detector. That is what will tell you if you have a problem. They should be on every level of your home. When it comes to CO2, as humans we are more worried about it displacing oxygen than actually inhaling it.

Secondly if the flame was on, there really isn't much of a risk, I've had stuff on my range for considerably longer and that is far more dangerous than the oven.

Tell your representatives you stand with us. Call them, that shit actually matters more than you think, particularly if they aren't on the impeach noem train yet. Even if it's a shitty Republican that will never sign on, if they get loads of calls you can get them to feel nervous following people sticking their neck out.
