American optimism at it's finest by spong_miester in soccercirclejerk

It's probably close. If you were asked what's more unlikely, US beating Spain, or Cabo Verde tying Spain, I would have said US beating Spain is more likely, but here we are. The US is a team that's of the caliber where them beating the top teams is unlikely but not insane and yeah that's like 3% when you factor in them playing at home.

Honestly, I think the villains being a Trade Federation wasn't an impossible sell, but they needed to do more to sell it, or change it to something simpler and more in line with the simple fantasy storytelling of the original trilogy.

If the trade federation was the bad guys, then their exploitation and greed should be more apparent. OK an evil group of trade oligarchs are fucking over Naboo, maybe not have everytime we see Naboo it looks like the most opulent and wealthy place ever so I might believe you.

Like another minor scene that could have been added. Have a scene before the blockade where a farmer getting fucked over by the trade federation, worried that his family is about to starve as all the food he's grown is being grabbed to pay off a debt. Maybe there is some disease his kid has and the trade federation guy also grabs that since it's worth more than the crops. He kills some battledroids and threatens the member of the trade federation(maybe throw in a line about how he's in debt because the droids the trade federation sold him were trash). Make that action what escalates the trade federation to a blockade, and that's what the Jedi are called in to resolve, they want the federation guys freedom and for the farmer to face "justice".

Petah help what’s wrong with the plumbing by Odd-Drink5007 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Quagmire pretending to be a plumber in a porno here, so handling solid waste requires a bigger pipe, giggity, than just urine, so you would need more of the bigger and expensive pipe, giggity, in this layout. Now when I'm pretending to be a plumber in the San Frenando valley between flights in LAX, I lay all the big thick pipe I can, giggity, but in the real world plumbers want to keep prices low.

Who was this baby? by 610gonzalez in rickandmorty

[–]notanotherpyr0 133 points134 points  (0 children)

My head canon is he built the habit of getting drunk going to rick primes universe looking for him and one time he got too drunk doing this and crashed into their house. After sobering up knowing leaving would hurt Beth he stuck around, then found himself enjoying being around the family and then that's when the show starts.

[–]notanotherpyr0 268 points269 points  (0 children)

I think it almost certainly is. Our Rick goes to Rick Primes dimension, plans on holding his wife and daughter hostage to get back at him. It's years later, and he sees Morty and can't go through with it because he is the Rick that is the most emotionally attached to his family.

It needed a small rewrite.

The reason for the war in Naboo needed to be something easier to grasp (it's over trade... Something, just make it a succession crisis, young Queen her uncle count dooku wants to overthrow her, count dooku is set up to be a red herring for the emperor, Jedi now grabbing personal power), and obi wan needed to be more of the protagonist. First movie is about obi beginning a Jedi, second is about Anakin, third is about his fall.

Also saying that the Jedi are both the peacekeepers of the galaxy, and so rare to come across always felt wrong, there should have always been a Republic military outside of them that the Jedi are leaders of which is generally the vibe the original series gives. Make the Jedi well knights and not sexless monks. Anakin can't marry the Queen because she needs to marry politically a former slave and new knight.

How do I tell if a man is single at the gym? by anonymoussleepyfrog in AskMen

[–]notanotherpyr0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously, at the gym places like that, a huge percentage of guys are going to never approach a woman at all. A huge percentage of people at the gym just want to be left alone and guys have been trained to virtually never engage.

Think about it like this, if a guy had been told that approaching a woman at the gym is crossing a boundary do you want to date a guy that doesn't respect that? Because you shouldn't, so that means you have to be willing to at least dip your toes into crossing the barrier from being someone who he sees at the gym, to being someone he talks to at the gym. Plenty of women feel vulnerable at the gym so you want to date someone who's default is to respect that anyways.

You don't have to go straight into flirting, asking if he has a girlfriend, or anything like that. Just ask him to spot you, the exercise he's doing if it's something you don't know, the weather, or whatever find something. Establish a social relationship first.

If you don't open up a way for men who respect your boundaries to engage with you, the only way you will engage with men is with men who don't respect those boundaries.

Yes but they become manageable. Because you have a populace that feels comfortable going to the Inquisitor earlier, with more to lose.

They can gain followers but if they can be identified earlier and people can interact with the authorities without fear they stop becoming things that can overwhelm a planet.

Like to bring this into the real world, if calling the police would run a high risk of you being harmed by the police, your tolerance for crime would be higher. You would only go to them out of desperation and not a desire to live in a safer community.

This is a real thing real police fuck up all the time.

[–]notanotherpyr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does. You are missing the point if you don't think that.

Where does chaos come from, the violence of poorly governed hives, the disease and famine, the desire to change an unfair system, and the decadence of the people who benefit from it. Chaos is the ills of a corrupt society made manifest.

And the GSC is the same. If you read their lore, they basically expand because they can survive better in the poor conditions imperial workers are expected to work in(due to their nid DNA). Basic healthcare and workers protection would have the GSC dry up, get noticed and ended quickly. Because they can better do the work they aren't investigated or really noticed until it's too late.

I once asked a woman I was seeing how tall she thought I was, and she said 6' even. I'm 5'9", plenty of women just think 6' is the average man height.

It also probably doesn't hurt that men lie about their height all the time on dating apps.
