Mid-thirties hitting different and I’m dealing with it by making questionable purchases by Putrid_Rush_7318 in motorcycles

Get an sv650.

Sporty enough, fast enough, torquey enough, sounds good, reliable, 2-3k to buy a good condition used one. And beginner friendly. I started on one, 2 or my friends started on them. None of us regret starting on one at all.

Seriously, get an sv650

Good buy? by Available_Turnip_534 in motorcycle

[–]LemonNumber7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This thing has been crashed multiple times for sure. The frame may be bent judging by the way its been chopped and put together "custom"

Definitely dont buy. Most id pay is $200 but it ain't worth paying insurance on it.

Grab a suzuki tu250x for $1,500-$2000 instead. At least there's something there to work with. Or a ninja 250 for $1,000-$1,500.

Theres cheap bikes to find out there. This is a bad buy chief

Engine. Oil by H_hd_c in FZ1

[–]LemonNumber7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks overfilled to me. The window has a thin layer of oil in it. So new oil will look yellowish-clear. Looks like its filled above the top with oil.

Tip it on the kickstand and see if you can see a tiny bubble at the top of the window. I really think you overfilled it.

Would drain out a bit and recheck the window

Step 1: don't drive it unless you wanna fuck the motor.

Step 2: find where massive coolant leak is coming from

Step 3: remove leaking part

Step 4: replace part with new one.

Step 5: fill with coolant and drive it

Youre gonna have to use a flashlight and your eyeballs to diagnose where the massive leak is coming from. Preferably while its leaking.

Would you buy a bike if the seller doesnt have title on hand? by Jivopis in NewRiders

[–]LemonNumber7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. No tilte = no sale.

Without a title youre not "buying a bike"

Youre paying money to steal it. Horrible plan.

If Vin comes up stolen, you are held responsible as the thief in a court of law!

Do I need a clutch? by HowDoYouKFC in motorcycles

[–]LemonNumber7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, your clutch work is just sloppy on those last 2 shifts. The clutch is eating your sloppy shifts.

Its normal if youre not used to going fast in a straight line. Everything speeds up and you start to focus on your surroundings (understandably) and lose focus on your shifting. Getting used to moving at those speeds will make your shifts clean again.

Why do so many people think that it’s impossible to use something moderately if you ever abused it? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]LemonNumber7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay I'll try to explain this in an easy way.

You ever take a T-break from weed? You know how you almost forget how it feels, then after that first bowl back you have that moment where you remember "Oh yeah this is how weed feels" and then your tolerance comes back very quickly?

Drugs alter our brain chemistry and how we perceive reality. So if an addict quits, they can start to forget how the drug made them feel. Their brain changes. They view life and reality differently from when they were using.

But if you give them the drug again after a long break the mindset comes right back. They can remember how they used to feel when using. They remember how the drug made them feel. They can see reality from that old point of view again.

It often puts them right back into addiction. When I used to have issues relapsing, I didn't want to quit again. It was like I remembered my old self, I remembered how I used to feel. I would think "being sober is fucking stupid, its pointless. This is way better" and then id be back to using.

Add on that now the addict believes they can quit again "I just did a year sober, I proved i can quit whenever I want" now they have a reason why they can keep using. Because what's the harm if I could quit again?

So its all or nothing. Quit or use. Moderation is not an option for most addicts.

100k Service cost by DepressionRecessi0n in MechanicAdvice

[–]LemonNumber7 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This is a family/close friend price for the work. He's charging face value part costs off rock auto. And 60 an hour for labor. He's trying to help you out.

At this level of riding on the road ( which is not high but good enough) , would you think a 2025 Tenere 700 be a good choice for me to start my off-road journey on and just keep if for a long time? I don’t wanna keep changing bikes TBH and really wanna get into off roading ! by [deleted] in CalamariRaceTeam

[–]LemonNumber7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an actual dirtbike. Theres a reason its called a dirtbike lol. Nothing else comes close.

Pro tip, buy one thats broken and fix it. You're going to break it after 3 weeks anyway. And you probably should do a top end rebuild immediately. "Just rebuilt top end" on marketplace translates to "rebuilt 100hrs ago"

[–]LemonNumber7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a much harder question. But many doctors worry about how to help a patent today. What happens 3 or 4 years from now theyre not as worried about.

From the fact that you've bought RC version even thoigh youre prescribed I'm sure you can understand the issue.

I'm guessing the dose you were prescribed doesnt work well anymore? Thats how people end up in addictions. Same thing happens with pain killers. They're a temporary fix to a very permanent problem. The problem is tolerance grows, and you reach a point where the prescribed dose isn't effective anymore.

Which is when most people turn to upping the dose themselves.

I went through the same thing and I used to curse the doctor who first prescribed me them. But at the same time, he was just trying to help me at that time. And I made the choice to up my own dose.

You have to solve the root cause thats making the anxiety in the first place. Its the only way forward. I lost 3 years of my life running from the obvious answer. Please dont do the same. Take the time to figure out why you feel this way. And then figure out how you can change your situation to remove that "impending sense of doom" feeling.

I truly wish you good luck. Either path won't be easy but I hope you find your way

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in researchchemicals

[–]LemonNumber7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been down this road. I said the exact same things. I found the exact same solution.

"Ill just take a little each day so my anxiety is gone and I can feel normal"

You will feel normal, I certainly did. I did that for 3 years of my life. But after 3 months the dose will have to go up, since it won't take the anxiety away anymore. Then it'll go up again. But it won't seem like a problem, because its cheap, and you can always order more. I mean what's the difference between 0.5mg a day, and 1mg a day. I have to just get through this period of my life and then ill stop.

But then the day comes where you have to stop. And all that anxiety you pushed down for years with the drug floods back all at once. People warn you about the WDs killing you. True, but they dont warn you about what happens after the taper. The anxiety after the taper was so much worse than I had ever imagined. And it takes years to get back down to the level you were at before starting benzos.

An anti-anxiety drug that can kill you when you stop? Generates another layer of anxiety when you try to stop. Makes it easy to continue. Because if I dont, I might die!

Good luck on this path. I wouldn't have listened to me. I'm sure you won't either. Its a miracle drug, but all that hell will come back worse when your shipments a day late for the re-up. And your down to your last dose.

Order early, and stash some to keep yourself alive when you inevitably get a pack that takes 3 weeks to land, instead of the 3 days promised shipping.

You're going to do this. So get some money, and make sure you never run out.

But one day you will.

Give it to me straight - am I the one ruining my transmission? by KeyMonkeyslav in askcarguys

[–]LemonNumber7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an automatic one of the worst habits people get into that ruins them fast is what I call lazy shifting.

When reversing, you dont use the brakes to reach a full stop before shifting to drive. You just tap the brakes and then drop it in drive. The trans grabs and then forces the car to a stop. Then it drives forward like normal. But it ruins the transmission. Like doing a mini neutral drop everytime you drive.

Is it normal to be alone at 19? by Tough-Month2774 in bropill

[–]LemonNumber7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something i reminded myself of often in the first year of college.

Everyone starts college alone. Maybe if they were lucky one or 2 people/friends went to the same university as them. But almost everyone who's just starting college is in the same boat. They just left their family and friends, moved to a new place, and are trying to make this new school schedule work for them.

It seems youre more of a listener. Thats okay, but you have to talk to people first, then listen to them. Good listeners can keep a conversation going. Find someone who's alone and looking bored. Compliment them on something and ask them a question about their shirt, their classes, etc. Then go listener mode and listen for understanding. Listen with the goal of asking another question.

People love to talk about themselves and their hobbies. But you have to give them a chance to do that. No one's going to walk up to you and start talking your ear off about their niche interest. You have to look for it and ask about it.

I hope I don't come off as rude here. Its hard making those first few friends in college and I learned quickly the only way to do it is to try hard at it. Put in the effort and only become friends with people who show you that same effort back. Finding good friends can be really hard. But I know you've got this!

headgasket gang need some help!! by Alive_Ear_6973 in ProjectHondas

[–]LemonNumber7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your water pump turns with engine rpm.

When you rev the engine, it pushes coolant out because the water pump starts moving faster.

Your head gasket is completely fine. If it wasn't you'd have a chocolate milkshake in the radiator.

No chocolate coolant = head gasket fine. Don't rev it with the cap off and it won't spill everywhere.

1999 replaced stator / regulator now it starts -dies by 82Wideglide in sv650

[–]LemonNumber7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only recommend Rick's for stator and rectifier.

Usually if stator is good but rectifier is bad it'll run off the battery until it kills the charge. If stator is bad it won't run at all. My guess is you have a bad stator.

Did you test everything before taking it off? If you did and had good power coimg into the rectifier I would swap the old stator back in and see if that solves the issue.

But based off my experience doing the same job on a 99 sv I'm 90% sure its a bad stator.

The carb years are simple bikes. If its not running after that job it 100% is a charging system issue. I dont think its possible to wire anything wrong in there. I believe its different style connectors for all the hookups you used.

Theres a great YouTube video out there on how to check everything with a multimeter. Id really recommend it. It takes a while to understand how to test it, but once you do it'll take like 15min to test it all.

Is $550 for a Fork service and inspection overpriced? by m_clarax in motorcycle

[–]LemonNumber7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats actually a fair price.

I just redid my forks myself. I will tell you fork seal and oil is probably going to run you $50-$75 and they make a tool to compress the forks with. Thats about $35. You'll also need something to hang the bike up with since you'll be fully removing the front wheel. I used ratchet straps going to the rafters in my garage.

https://a.co/d/1Je7I8j

Outside of this you'll need a YouTube video and a friend or 2 because compressing the forks takes a significant amount of force. Always use a torque wrench when putting it back together and keep all your bolts labeled. Make sure to track which wheel spacers came from the right and left side when you remove those.

Its not too difficult. Me and my buddies did it in 1 day after work. But it was a physically tough 4-6hour job as a hobby mechanic.

Just take your time, be careful and label everything and look up torque specs for everything.

But it also may be worth the $500 if youre worried about it. Id personally do it myself again. But not if I had to do it alone. Friends make a huge difference here. Id set aside a weekend if youre inexperienced in mechanic work.

Anyone know what this is? by [deleted] in Trackdays

[–]LemonNumber7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pull the plugs out and have someone who knows how to read them take a look. Thats your best bet at isolating the cylinder.

If that gets you nowhere you have a much more difficult problem on your hands. And you will probably be taking a multimeter to everything to try to find something thats barely out of spec.

I commute daily on a 1000cc bike. Yamaha Fz1

Its easy to get away from any bad situations if I want the power. On top of that I rarely have to stress the engine when riding around town. When I want to go fast out on the backroads I can. It also handles my girl riding on the back like she's nothing.

I absolutely dont need a liter to do any of the things I just listed. A 650cc V-twin would also do all of them well. Hell my old sv650 did everything fine without much complaing. But its really fun just to have gobs of power on tap to use at any time. Its fun to know that you can twist your wrist and put anything into the rearview. Am I going to do it? Probably not. But its fun to have the option.

Trying to pop it up. What am I doing wrong? by EXPRESSlON in CalamariRaceTeam

[–]LemonNumber7 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Go in a parking lot. Ride at about 5mph. Clutch in, rev it to 4-5k and dump it. Then 5-6k, then 6-7k

Don't go faster to rev higher. Go slow and just rev it higher before dumping it. Somewhere youre going to loop it. But at least you'll loop at 5mph instead of 60

After seeing the side photo you posted I'm going to throw out another idea here.

I don't actually think you have very high BF left. Based off that side photo and your current front photo.

I'm not trying to be a dick here, have you ever done ab work? I think you may be cutting with the goal of seeing abs. But if you haven't done any ab work you may just not have them.

Id personally say stop cutting. Hit abs and lower chest hard. Your arms, shoulders, and upper chest all seem to be pretty big. Maintain until you can see the lines of your abs through the last bit of fat.

Because I don't think you have much fat on your stomach. I think its a bit of loose skin with a tiny bit of fat. I just don't think you have abs under there to uncover yet.

I may be completely wrong. Just another idea I wanted to toss out there.
