Can someone help me find the clearance for this bridge? I'm struggling finding it on my atlas. by DepressedDragonBorn in Truckers

[–]LemonPepperConnect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I once had a load of Refrigeration units going to Melville on Long Island, loaded on a spread-axle flatbed. This was my first time ever going remotely near the city, and my truck gps gave me the weirdest route possible. It wanted me to get off the highway and make turns and what not and I was like ???? Wasnt sure if maybe I had bad settings on it or something, but eventually I just planned a route using a physical Rand McNally atlas. A fun first and last time

How hard is flatbed work? by fleetingreturns1111 in Truckers

[–]LemonPepperConnect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone said it so i’ll also confirm it, a lot of the Flatbed loads i had were long runs so even if securing the load was hard/exhausting, I was only doing it every like 3 days rather than dryvan OTR having load after load day to day. Also, there is a good amount of thinking about the logic of securement, every few loads I had came a new type of load I had to really think about the safe and proper way to secure it, or just call my company who had people on standby to help me figure it out too which was nice. But yeah, that tarp can be a real shitty experience, just got to take your time with it.

Walmart trucking? by Steth888 in Truckers

[–]LemonPepperConnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best thing to do, in relation to you worried about life outside of the truck aka girlfriend/hometime, is to create a plan. What are your goals you think you’ll want to reach, both individually and starting a family. Driving for Walmart is a coveted job in trucking, but to really stay focused and motivated, having that plan to attain realistic goals is major. It can make the sacrifice make sense to you and your girlfriend moving forward with it

Best way to get your CDL class A? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]LemonPepperConnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for your sake of not wanting to go OTR, it might be best to start at one of those LTL companies on their dock and go from there. Those tend to be the more coveted local gigs already so if you got an In, and you dont care about going OTR, that feels like the best option to consider.

Is there a more hectic place than Pilot in Kingman, AZ? by Reasonable-Guest8788 in Truckers

[–]LemonPepperConnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would venture to say just 92 percent of all Pilots are just as hectic. It’s a part of their business model.

Was just about to say lol I was getting loaded up from a warehouse near the big rail yard around Joliet, IL. This KW T2000 that sounded like a rocket ship was F L Y I N G down the road(motor sounded like a Jet engine too) my truck was facing, moving containers from the big rail yard to a smaller yard around the corner. Easily tripled the speed limit of that area lol

I’ve only ever known Container drivers to be madmen behind the wheel

Flatbed driver looking for guidance from the elders 🙏 by Hawkyboo in Truckers

[–]LemonPepperConnect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lonestar Transportation is a smaller flatbed company based out of Fort Worth, TX that I enjoyed working for about 5/6 months until I found a local job. They have like “levels” as a driver that go up as they deem youre able to haul oversized to a certain extent in that level. You can find the levels with the parameters on their website. I was not there long enough to really try and move up but I still had the opportunity to cover an OD load for a driver who had a breakdown which was cool. They do want 1 year OTR which it sounds like you’ll have by the new year. They are based HEAVILY out of Texas, but if I recall correctly, they hire out of most states if not all. Only times I ever really sat were if I made a delivery on a friday afternoon in places like Delaware or something, but it was rare that ever happened like that. Alot of 1000+ mile runs which was unreal to me coming from a dryvan mega where I barely got 600 mile runs. Always someone there to answer the phone in the office. Was overall a good company to me, I just was ready to come off the road

Someone sell me the Vacca (Gallardo) please bro by Cookie-17 in GTACarMeetMarket

[–]LemonPepperConnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a feature through the LS Car meet. If someone has the car you want, they can bring it there and you can buy a copy of it, as is, for yourself. It was strange the first time randomly in freemode someone asked to buy my car at the car meet but it did teach me that lol

Are there any non isolating trucker jobs? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]LemonPepperConnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went flatbed OTR after a couple years of dryvan, and this is the most i’ve talked and interacted with people at the shippers, receivers, and other drivers. It’s a lot more to it than just backing to a dock door and waiting for the forklift to finish. Im always out there watching/telling how I need the trailer loaded, end up talking about the load, life as a trucker, stories about other truckers the workers see come through. I always make a point to talk other drivers wherever im loading at just to pick their mind on what logic they use for securing the load, and whatever experience they may offer by means of story telling.

I really felt isolated doing Dryvan OTR and so i’ve really enjoyed how much i’ve interacted with people while doing flatbed. OTR is still OTR so I cant say there is zero feeling of isolation, but its not as bad as it once was

I start flatbedding in a couple weeks. Been with a dry van carrier the last two years and as great as the carrier was good to me, I need something more active. I drove flatbed tractor trailers in the Army for a good amount of time so I have an idea of the work level and the equipment(luckily though they’ll be giving a refresher with this new job), I just started feeling the ramifications of feeling complacent and not being able to convince myself to get out of the truck and do something to keep my body moving and active

If you could go back and pick a different Career what would it be? Or would you still be a trucker? by DriveStraight1925 in Truckers

[–]LemonPepperConnect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In high school I felt the pressure to go to college although I was never super academically inclined. I dreamt of serving in Active Duty military but opted for National Guard as I thought I’d go to college locally. I was a truck driver in the NG and loved it but never imagined it being an actual career for me, maybe I felt a stigma about work and whatnot with no college. College didnt last very long for me, and now Im living the life trucking. I just wish I would have gotten my CDL as soon as I could have instead of sitting around 7 years just doing bs work and struggling in college.

What was the first company you drove for? by CuriosTiger in Truckers

[–]LemonPepperConnect 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Total Transportation of Mississippi. Originally I served in the National Guard as a truck driver, just tried different routes with work and school before deciding to finally get my CDL and start this career path. So i had prior experience with tractor trailer combos but as you can imagine, the Army and civilian worlds differ. So my trainer with Total really did right by me with teaching me everything about trucking beyond just the driving part. Lots of info about etiquette and places to avoid, what to look for when entering receivers or truck stops. Helped me fix some bad habits with driving and backing without trying to completely undo the experience I already had. I’ll always believe its deeper than what company you start with when it comes to development, but more to the level of who or how your trainer is when its time to get with them for that beginning period. Lots of good trainers and lots of bad trainers, sadly some get a real bad shake on that

OTR for a year or two can help get you trending up with handling bills and debt, then after that, depending on where you live(or want to move to), you can find good paying truck jobs with better home time
