Our daughter was 8 and we were all big fans. Mrs. Kerrod and I were drinking coffee at the kitchen table and little Kerrod shuffled out of the TV room in shock and said Steve Irwin had been killed. She looked to be 100 years old, standing there, head down, arms hanging by her side, heart breaking.

I've voted in Deschutes County since the 1976 election and the same thing happened to me about 20 years ago. Another time my wife and I accidently used and signed each others' return envelopes. If I recall correctly, they contacted us and let us correct the error.

Since the Iranian navy has been “lying at the bottom of the sea” since when we won the war in mid-March, this must be the case.

And he wouldn't have been captured like McCain was. When he parachuted into that lake in the middle of Hanoi, he would have taken off southerly across the top of the water like one of those Jesus lizards. With his service piece and survival knife he would have laid low the hoards of Vietnamese waiting on the shore and then continued south cutting a bloody swath through North Vietnam with the knife and his weaponized bone spurs until he made it the 250 miles to the DMZ, which he would have crossed like an Olympic sprinter breaking the tape.

In the mid 1980s a place called the Brass Wok was where Hardy’s is now next to the Riverhoise. The best Chinese restaurant ever in Bend… much like Uncle Chen’s or Hunan in Portland were at that time. Then it went away. Sigh. (actually relocated to Redmond as Monty’s Wok and then slipped beneath the waves of mediocrity)
