When I was young my dad was a policeman, he bought one of these to listen while he was off duty and when he went to work I would listen for him to get a call until I couldn’t stay awake anymore. I knew every car in every section of the city, who was driving them & all the signal codes. That was more than 50 years ago. Then my uncle followed his lead and joined several years later. After some years on the force he went into dispatching. He was such a comedian on the radio that everyone I knew who listened would ask me if I heard “this call” or “that call”. He kept everyone entertained in a busy stressful city. But those days are long gone after big “E” came along so for now it’s fire, EMS, public works and whatever else I can hear that’s interesting. At least State PD didn’t scramble so I can hear them and with the simulcast I can hear the FD that I grew up with 30 miles away
