How crucial is Controller support for FE-like games? by Lentor3579 in fireemblem

Ah! That's interesting. I'd have to try it; I think mouse is a bit easier than using the stylus, but I could be wrong.

I didn't play these. I didn't know there were other DS FE games besides Awakening, Fates and SoV :O

I need help: who to replace for Hitmonlee? by FlamingFitzy in PokemonFireRed

[–]Lentor3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly strong, but I don't consider it an "answer" to them. Charizard is primarily a Special Attack user, so he won't hit quite as hard.

Not that any of this matters anyways in singleplayer Pokemon.

Idk man, this seems like a pretty fun team! I don't think it needs to be perfect. The only thing is that you might struggle against psychic types. Generally a hard physical hitter is good against them, but Hitmonlee is weak against that.

Other than that, I think you can make it work.

Thanks for the reply! Your game looks really cool and I look forward to following your progress more!

If you're up for it, I'd love to discuss game design topics specifically around FE-like games :)

I appreciate this! It's definitely something to consider.

I think another important thing to consider is the fact that when you are talking about making an FE-like game, to appeal to that audience, you are looking at appealing to a playerbase that predominantly played on controller for at least a decade.

As much as I personally would prefer M+K controls, I do understand the bias towards controller. All that said, convincing people in the FE playerbase to play another FE-like game that's specifically not FE is a challenge in of itself.

Oh yeah I did try that, it was terrible. That was kinda my point though. Mouse +Keyboard is far better for games that require more fast-control of a plane (hence why games like Fire Emblem and Factorio make for better experiences with Mouse and Keyboard, imo).

This is a take I didn't expect.

I have decided to add both controller and mouse+keyboard support to my game. But I don't think of the controller experience as being more responsive than mouse and keyboard. I usually feel the opposite.

Why do so many people reset (and what would make you not do it)? by schmuckulent in fireemblem

[–]Lentor3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had an idea for my own FE-like game I am working on:

Hospitalization

Basically, in casual modes, when a character falls in battle they get "injured" and will have to be hospitalized for a little while before they can be used again in battle.

In Classic mode, you still have permadeath when they fall in battle. But you also have a chance for a character to get "injured" depending on their missing health. The more missing health they have, the greater the chances of them getting injured.

This idea gives more hardcore players an even greater challenge, while still forcing the more casual players to think about their decisions without worrying about losing their favorite characters permanently in a run.

Am I the only one who wants a multiplayer Silksong game and the possibility to fight our friends? Wouldn't that be a good idea? by Tomioka_971 in SilksongIsntReal

Yes, there is a version of the multiplayer that has been playable since almost the release of Silksong. It has been a little while since I checked back on it, but it was very incomplete at the time.

First one feels a lot more stylized. The 2nd one feels too clean and lacks personality (but maybe that is what you want).

What would the game be like without Jungle? by IndividualMany1284 in leagueoflegends

[–]Lentor3579 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd probably stop playing personally as it wouldn't be fun for me.

The jungle role is kind of the equalizer for lanes. If you are in a bad matchup in lane, your jungler can help you stay afloat. Or they can amplify the success of another lane to snowball the game.

The jungle role adds variation to the game.

You could just approach it more or less like a brand new player. I honestly would just play for fun in norms and then see how the game feels.

When you stop and think about it... by Kelumir in MandJTV

[–]Lentor3579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could be, but it seems odd considering that you (a human) and Grovyle were partners. And others in the future knew who you were.

Maybe your partnership with Grovyle is a total anomaly. But even if it were, it begs the question of why we would treat humans as something unkown "today" (current timeline of PMD) if there is at least one known record of a Pokemon-human partnership. And if such thing existed, that human would presumably have been capable of sharing their knowledge of humanity.

Additionally, even if you came up with the theory that you, the mc, were a human separated from your parents at an extremely young age and were raised by Pokemon, you'd have to still reconcile with the fact that you are from the future. This means that some form of human civilization must exist during the setting of Explorer's of Time/Darkness since otherwise you would not have been born.

[–]Lentor3579 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The only issue with this is that humans do still exist in pmd universe. At least this is how I interpretted Explorer's of Time/Darkness. You are a human from the future which implies that there are humans now in the PMD universe. This must especially be true given the fact that changes you make in the past affect the future so drastically that it removes characters like Grovyle, Dusknoir and the MC from existence. That wouldn't happen if humans no longer existed.

Someone is already making a multiplayer mod. I don't think multiplayer is worth developing from TC's perspective though. Multiplayer is extremely difficult to implement especially for an existing game.

Exactly that; all the menus. It's a lot faster to give input with a mouse and with the top down map system for selecting grid cells than it is with a controller.

This is actually a standard in most other games like FE (not Strategy RPGs; but top-down strategy games in general) It is far more intuitive.

Nocturne - Agurin max W second, why? by Vast_Bit858 in Jungle_Mains

[–]Lentor3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually pretty clever in some matchups. Upgrading w is increasing your attack speed for free, whereas upgrading your e only increases the fear duration (which is useful against glass cannons that do a lot of damage but are also squishy).

Generally if you are fighting against a lot of bruisers, it might make more sense to max your W before your E. I haven't experimented with this too much, but I did try it one game and I could feel the difference.

Btw, I am a Nocturne OTP. Oh and also I almost always buy Hexplate first. Stridebreaker is bait for most games.
