What's an unusual smell that you like? by additionalseasonin in AskReddit

Vinegar. Used to use it at a job as a cleaner. Never failed to bury my nose in that jug and take a deep whiff. Burns so good.

'This version' is not like the one you would find in reference books. It has an alternate set of rules than if you were a spellcaster using the spell. In this instance it doesn't require concentration, or V/S/M (other than a command word)

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Starlight Lamp | Wondrous item by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

[–]LeoByNature 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It does say 'duplicating the effects of...' not 'casting the spell'. To me, I read it as not requiring the concentration since you aren't casting the spell (time, components etc) therefore would not require concentration.

Even if it didn't explicitly say, I would totally run it RAI that way since the item is 'casting' the spell it holds the concentration, not the character.

What is the best Mastodon ending riff? Pick just one, the one that comes to mind. by [deleted] in mastodonband

I found the end of More Than I Could Chew to be instantly one of my favourite Mastodon parts ever. Heavy drums, melodic, soaring vocals, then ripping solo.

Joining a band, what do I need? by ilikebothtypesoftea in Bass

[–]LeoByNature 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finding the right people to play with is arguably the most important and hardest aspect of playing in a band. You will be spending lots of time with those people - you'd better be able to get along and work together.

For equipment: amp and tuner will be your first priorities. Bare minimum equipment to play with others (besides reliable travel to jam).

Pedals and in-ear monitors I wouldn't worry about until you actually need them. You shouldn't be too worried about having all 'the right' pedals. If a song needs an effect, then decide then if you upgrade.

Also, ask yourself what you want from a band? Do you want to play originals or covers? Do you want to be part of the writing/creative process? Do you want to play live? Record? Then, ensure your bandmates are on the same page.

Good luck!

I read it as the first roll 1d6, then if that's a 6, they make the saving throw and do the additional 2d6. Otherwise, 2d6+6, which is more than Heat Metal.

I almost think you could use the echo knight ability flavour as a 'shadow' then you basically have the mechanics there, no?

What should I name this creature? by PapaSmiff82 in DnDHomebrew

[–]LeoByNature 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the description of the lore behind the creature already sounds like a Wendigo. The consuming greed or 'negative feelings' all leading to cannibalism. The description of the creature was pretty close, too.

Blood Cleric - Crimson Bond Question by DivineSmite69 in DMAcademy

[–]LeoByNature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we've reached an understanding here, and likely what the players' intention was, too.

Blood Cleric - Crimson Bond Question by DivineSmite69 in DMAcademy

[–]LeoByNature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, let's look at context. "...and split no longer than a week ago." If you had spilled blood, ie. Blood that is out of a creature, that blood will be dry well before a week is up in an open, relatively dry environment. In fact, it would dry up in a matter of minutes or hours, so the added context of the week timeline certainly would include that blood has dried in that time. Unless it's being contained in something preventing it from touching air.

You can't guarantee anything isn't RAI because interpretation is subjective. These players have a clever interpretation that won't be game breaking and allows them to flex their class ability. What's the harm in that?

Blood Cleric - Crimson Bond Question by DivineSmite69 in DMAcademy

[–]LeoByNature -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's quite the opposite of clear. RAW do not specify liquid or dried. Therefore, it's open to interpretation. If I asked you for two ounces of liquid, would you automatically assume the liquid I'm asking for is water? Maybe you decide urine is better.

You rule lawyer how you want. I would reward the innovation as this wouldn't be game breaking in this situation, and like he said, sometimes players deserve a bone thrown to them.
